Are you a creative individual who has a passion for graphics design? Our Corporate Services department is looking for a Graphics Designer to partake in artwork for the promotion of programs and activities! This role is vital to promote the City of Burnaby’s programs and services. Allow your creativity to be seen through your work, including communication materials such as photographs, drawings, sketches, flyers, and other publications. The Graphics Designer will also be responsible for coordinating the production of brochures, and flyers, performing custom cartography, graphics and artwork tasks, designing and preparing a variety of forms, posters, and cards, and selecting paper and type styles, size and colours. They will perform related work as required.
Qualifications include completion of a two year diploma program in commercial or graphic arts, plus sound related experience in graphic design; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. You will have considerable knowledge of graphic art and design methods such as online (using animated motion graphics) and press-ready printing, cartographic presentation needs of municipal planning functions, and the use of computer software (i.e. After Effects, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Acrobat Pro and Premiere Pro, and MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc). The ideal candidate will have the ability to prepare camera ready artwork, overlays, sketches, brochures, forms and related promotional and informational material. Ability to develop production and printing schedules and to monitor adherence to same. A valid Driver's License for the Province of British Columbia is required.
Pay Rate: $39.14 per hour + 12% in lieu of benefits (2024 Rates)
Location: Deer Lake 2
Hours of work: This is an auxiliary position, hours and shifts are based on operational requirements and do not provide guaranteed hours of work. Typical shifts will be Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, 70 hours biweekly for the first 6 months, with the potential of similar hours for an additional 6 months.
