Health/Physical Education Teacher chez Cumberland Valley School District

The High School Physical Education (PE) Teacher is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive physical education program that promotes lifelong fitness, wellness, and healthy lifestyle habits among students. The teacher provides engaging, developmentally appropriate instruction aligned with state standards and district curriculum. In addition to teaching a variety of physical activities, sports, and fitness concepts, the PE teacher fosters teamwork, sportsmanship, and personal responsibility. This role includes assessing student progress, maintaining a safe and inclusive learning environment, and collaborating with colleagues, coaches, and school administrators to support the school’s overall mission of student achievement and well-being.

Key Responsibilities:

• Plan and deliver high-quality physical education lessons that meet diverse student needs and align with curriculum standards.

• Promote the importance of physical activity, fitness, and wellness as integral parts of a healthy lifestyle.

• Create a safe, positive, and inclusive environment for all students.

• Assess and document student performance and progress through both skill-based and fitness assessments.

• Manage and maintain PE equipment and facilities.

• Collaborate with colleagues to integrate physical education with other academic and school initiatives.

• Support extracurricular athletic and wellness programs as appropriate.

• Bachelor’s degree in Health, Physical Education, or related field (Master’s preferred).

• Valid state teaching certification in Physical Education.

• Knowledge of current best practices in physical education, fitness, and health promotion.

• Ability to design inclusive, engaging, and developmentally appropriate physical activities for high school students.

• Strong classroom management, communication, and organizational skills.

• Commitment to fostering teamwork, sportsmanship, and lifelong wellness habits.

• Experience integrating technology and data to assess and enhance student learning.

• Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, coaches, and families to support student growth and achievement.

• Work is performed primarily in a school gymnasium, fitness center, and outdoor athletic facilities.

• Frequent physical activity required, including demonstrating exercises, sports skills, and movement techniques.

• Exposure to varying weather conditions during outdoor classes and events.

• Regular interaction with students, staff, and parents in a fast-paced, active environment.
