Position Summary
Orlando Health Wiregrass Ranch Hospital is seeking an experienced Laboratory Supervisor to join our team as we prepare for our hospital opening in early 2026. This position plays a key leadership role in overseeing daily laboratory operations, ensuring quality standards, and supporting a culture of excellence in patient care and service.
The Supervisor will provide daily supervision of personnel, oversee workflow, maintain quality and regulatory compliance, and participate in bench testing as needed to ensure accuracy and reliability of laboratory results.
Essential Functions
Supervise and coordinate daily operations within assigned laboratory sections.
Monitor workflow, quality control, and compliance with service guarantees and accreditation standards.
Provide orientation, training, and performance evaluations for team members.
Support quality assurance programs, regulatory inspections, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Perform and verify both routine and special testing to maintain proficiency and ensure quality results.
Assist with budget management, supply ordering, and inventory control.
Participate in validation of instruments, calibration, and competency training for staff.
Collaborate with leadership on policy development, new test implementation, and process improvement.
Team & Environment
Supervises a team of approximately 10 direct reports including technologists, medical lab scientists, and lab assistants/phlebotomists.
Works closely with other laboratory sites to promote consistency and standardization across the Orlando Health system.
Qualifications
Licensure/Certification:
Current Florida Supervisor license and Medical Technologist license in the area of responsibility required.
Experience:
Minimum one (1) year of supervisory preferred.
Five (5) years of laboratory experience required.
Must be a generalist with experience across all sections of the lab, including chemistry, hematology, and blood bank.
Knowledge and experience with CAP accreditation.
Strong understanding of pre-analytical processes and laboratory workflow.
Schedule & Training
Standard schedule: Monday–Friday; flexibility required to support a 24/7 hospital operation (occasional evenings/weekends).
Initial shadowing and training will take place at Bayfront Hospital in St. Petersburg.
