Job Title: Riding School Manager

Reports To: KCRMA Equestrian Center Manager & Barn Manager 

Starting Pay Range: $22.00 - $28.00 per hour; paid on a biweekly basis

Employment Classification:  Depending on the program needs, may be structured as Regular Part-Time, Non-Exempt (20 - 29 hours per week) up to Full-Time, Exempt (40 hours per week).

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Equestrian Center Riding School Manager is responsible for the overall leadership and management of the Riding School program at the Ken-Caryl Ranch Equestrian Center. This position oversees program operations, staff, scheduling, and the health and care of school horses. The Manager ensures high-quality instruction, student safety, and an exceptional customer experience while maintaining alignment with the KCRMA’s standards and mission.


The Riding School Manager supervises and supports all Riding School instructors, coordinating schedules, providing training, and ensuring consistent teaching standards across disciplines. This role works collaboratively with the Equestrian Center Manager to enhance program development, enrollment growth, and community engagement.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


Program & Staff Management

  • Oversee the daily operations and instructional quality of the Riding School program.
  • Supervise and support all Riding School instructors, including hiring, onboarding, scheduling, and ongoing performance management.
  • Provide mentorship and professional development opportunities for instructors.
  • Ensure lesson plans and teaching methods meet safety and skill progression standards.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive team environment that emphasizes student learning and horse welfare.
  • Collaborate with the Equestrian Center Manager to design and implement new programs, clinics, and events to enhance community engagement.


Horse Care & Facility Oversight

  • Manage the care and well-being of Riding School horses, including feeding, grooming, turnout, and exercise.
  • Coordinate veterinary, farrier, and other equine health services.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of barns, stalls, and shared workspaces.


Administrative Responsibilities

  • Respond promptly to phone calls, emails, and customer inquiries.
  • Oversee lesson and camp scheduling for all instructors.
  • Manage invoicing, billing, and payment follow-ups for students.
  • Maintain accurate records for waivers, payments, and lesson attendance.
  • Coordinate summer camps, events, and volunteer scheduling.
  • Work with the Marketing team to promote Riding School programs, specials, and events.
  • Process check and gift card requests and manage supply inventory.
  • Support general office operations and assist with Ken-Caryl Ranch events as needed.


Instructional Duties (as needed) (paid at the instructor per hour rate)

  • Teach lessons or camps when coverage is required.
  • Provide demonstrations, host special events, or lead birthday parties and pony rides when scheduled.

Requirements

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum one (1) year previous experience managing a barn, equestrian center, or riding facility is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in staff supervision and equine program coordination.
  • Proficiency and working knowledge of multiple disciplines (e.g., English, Western, dressage, jumping, and trail).


JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Excellent communication, listening, problem-solving and troubleshooting skills are essential.
  • Excellent interpersonal customer service skills.
  • Demonstrate understanding of situational priorities for alerting authorities in times of disaster or critical circumstance.
  • Must have current, valid Colorado Driver’s License and must be insurable with KCRMA’s insurance carrier.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language at a level adequate to perform the job. 
  • Must be willing to become certified in CPR.


WORK AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This position requires work in a variety of locations and conditions, including but not limited to the Equestrian Center and office.


Working Environment

  • Moderate physical activity will be required frequently.
  • Work will occasionally be required outdoors in all weather conditions, including extreme heat/cold.
  • Work may be required under hazardous and adverse conditions, including, but not limited to, slippery and uneven surfaces and proximity to moving mechanical equipment.
  • Use of sensory activities, such as talking, seeing, hearing, smelling, feeling (identifying objects by touch), depth perception and color vision will be required frequently.
  • Be able to work evenings, holidays, and weekends as needed.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift, move and carry objects in excess of fifty (50) pounds frequently.
  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, kneel, stoop, bend, lift, squat, push, pull, crawl, jump, slide, climb, pinch, grip, reach overhead, reach away from body, and perform repetitive motions.
