Purpose Statement
The Nutrition Services Warehouse Associate/Driver supports warehouse operations by safely handling and transporting food, supplies, and/or equipment to designated sites.
Reports to: Nutrition Services Warehouse Manager
Essential Functions
Food & Supply Receiving
- Verify delivery tickets/bills of lading to ensure correct items and quantities are received.
- Inspect all incoming food and supplies for temperature accuracy, packaging integrity, and appropriate date codes in accordance with HACCP guidelines and Warehouse SOPs.
- Refuse or document items that do not meet safety, quality, or specification standards.
- Break down pallets, dispose of wrap appropriately, and organize like items for storage.
- Stock and rotate all food and supplies using the First In/First Out (FIFO) method to reduce waste and ensure food safety.
- Record and report receiving temperatures, shortages, and overages.
Food & Supply Delivery
- Utilize pick tickets to pull correct items for delivery, stacking pallets safely and securely.
- Record and verify product temperatures prior to and during transport following HACCP requirements.
- Deliver food, supplies, and equipment to designated school sites safely and on schedule.
- Confirm deliveries with site managers or designees before leaving, collecting signatures as required.
- Place all items in appropriate storage (dry, cooler, freezer), ensuring nothing is left on the floor or outside.
- Remove all pallet wrap and return empty pallets to the warehouse.
- Complete Food Transport HACCP logs and delivery documentation accurately.
Hot Shot Deliveries
- Fulfill emergency “Hot Shot” requests for food, supplies, or equipment as directed by Warehouse Manager or Operations Coordinator.
- Record and verify food temperatures during transport.
- Obtain signatures and submit delivery documentation per departmental procedures.
Equipment Receiving, Delivery & Maintenance
- Verify and inspect incoming equipment for accuracy and damage.
- Assist with equipment transport, installation, recycling, storage and disposal using district-approved safe handling procedures.
- Perform and support preventive maintenance (PM) tasks for district kitchen equipment, including:
- Clean, inspect, and maintain condensers, coolers, and freezers.
- Check gaskets, seals, and door hardware – repairing or replacing as needed.
- Monitor and record equipment performance and temperatures.
- Submit and track online work orders for repair or service as needed.
Warehouse Operations & Maintenance
- Operate warehouse equipment (forklifts, pallet jacks, lift gates, etc.) safely in compliance with training and maintenance requirements.
- Complete daily safety checks and report maintenance or repair needs through online work order system.
- Maintain warehouse cleanliness, organization, and compliance with all safety and food handling standards.
- Support scheduled preventative maintenance and vehicle inspections as assigned.
Inventory Control
- Assist with physical inventory counts and reconciliation to ensure accurate tracking of food and supply assets.
Special Functions & Events
- Assist with special district functions requiring Nutrition Services food, supplies, and/or equipment.
Other Functions
- Perform additional related duties as assigned to ensure efficient operation of Nutrition Services warehouse activities.
Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
- Skills: Safely operate warehouse equipment and vehicles; follow food safety and handling procedures; maintain accurate records; communicate effectively.
- Knowledge: Food safety and HACCP standards; FIFO inventory management; safe driving practices; warehouse operations; basic computer skills.
- Abilities: Follow standardized procedures; work independently and collaboratively; meet schedules and deadlines; lift and move heavy objects safely; ensure efficient safe operations; and, maintain a high level of attention to detail.
Working Environment
Work is performed in a warehouse and delivery setting involving exposure to varying temperatures. Physical demands include frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling; standing, walking, stooping, and bending; some climbing and/or crawling and balancing. Must be able to lift and move up to 50 pounds regularly and operate manual and powered equipment safely.
Experience
Job-related experience in warehouse, food service, or delivery operations preferred.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
Required Testing / Certificates:
- Physical Capacity Assessment
- Valid Driver’s License and Evidence of Insurability
- Food Handler or SafeServ Certification
- Forklift and/or Electric Pallet Jack Certification (as assigned)
Continuing Education / Training:
- Ongoing compliance and professional development training – including but not limited to food safety, equipment maintenance, personal safety, and inventory systems.
- Maintenance of all required certifications and licenses
