The Assistant Athletics Director, Athletic Facilities & Event Management manages and maintains the day-to-day operations of the Towson University athletic facilities, to include the Towson Center, TU Arena, Unitas Stadium, Soccer complex, Baseball complex, Softball complex, Field Hockey complex, tennis courts and all TU athletic practice fields. This position is responsible for the oversight of all game day events to provide game day staffing coverage and support. This position participates in the project discussions and decisions on athletic facilities and works closely with athletics senior staff and budget officer for non-routine work requests. This role is responsible for the day-to-day scheduling of all above facilities for all athletic team practices and competitions while working directly with Event and Conference Services and Coppermine LLC on any external scheduling of events. 


Facility Management: Supervision and management of all indoor and outdoor athletics facilities to include the Towson Center, TU Arena, Unitas Stadium, Soccer complex, Baseball complex, Softball complex, Field Hockey complex, tennis courts and all TU athletic practice fields; manages and coordinates maintenance requests with facilities management to ensure that all facilities are in optimal playing conditions for all TU athletic practices, competitions, and external events; participates in project meetings to ensure the athletic facilities meet the overall requirements of the end user.

Athletic Event Management: Responsible for coordinating and supervising game day event management for 19 NCAA Division 1 athletic teams. This consists of setup, game management and breakdown for all home athletic competitions; liaisons with TU Police Department on all large event documents to be completed prior to event; liaisons with Event and Conference Services, Coppermine LLC, and other outside contractors on all game day staffing needs; schedules crowd control following all state laws and University policies on crowd control management.

Scheduling: Responsible for coordinating and scheduling all athletic facilities listed above, for both practice and competition for 19 NCAA Division 1 athletic teams. This position must communicate with coaches and athletic staff regarding availability and conflicts of facilities. This position also serves as a liaison with Events and Conference Services and Coppermine LLC for scheduling external events at all athletic facilities while maintaining a master calendar of all events scheduled for these events. This position also works with the CAA on conference scheduling of home competitions.

Supervision: Responsible for the supervision of the athletic facilities management staff as well as the Athletics Campus Turf staff; ensures the staff is prepared to assist in the game day setup, game management and breakdown, while also assisting in scheduling and facility management of all areas stated above; ensures all outdoor venues are in optimal playing conditions for all athletic facilities.

Budget Management: Manages the facilities and event management operating budget, including investigating costs for various athletic facilities improvements and projects; supervises the use of the turf management budget by the Sports Turf Management Technician; forecasts replacement plans for needed facilities and equipment repairs and upgrade; ensures purchases and projects are following all university procurement policies; provides oversight of the Sports Complex and TU Arena operating budgets.

The work hours for this position may include evenings and weekends depending on the athletic competition schedule.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Two years of relevant work experience
  • Experience in managing athletic game day events and athletic facilities
  • Ability to communicate well with coaches, staff, University departments and external clients
  • Ability to align and execute the University's strategic vision and goals
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. and stand for long periods of time
  • Well-organized and able to work in a fast-paced, changing environment
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge and understanding of NCAA rules and a commitment to compliance regulations

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Sports Management
