Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
Bachelor's Degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Biology, Biochemistry or related field. Two years of full time biological science research experience within a research laboratory. Experience using advanced research equipment, which could include but not limited to, Optical cell plate reader, Quantitative PCR and/or Confocal microscopy. Experience performing bench lab experiments working with human cells in culture.
Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Biology, Biochemistry or related field.
Brief Description of Duties:
The Senior Research Support Specialist will provide a broader range of complex laboratory and research related tasks. Working under general supervision in support of a research project or program for Dr. Raymond Bergan in the Stony Brook Cancer Center incumbent will operate equipment, carry out test procedures as well as collate and interpret data using special methods. The successful incumbent will have excellent interpersonal skills, exercising strong organizational and time-management skills with exceptional attention to detail. Essential for this role is the adeptness to work independently as well as part of a team with a collaborative approach to problem solving.
Duties:
Develop, monitor, coordinate and manage activities to maintain effective operation of the program.
Conduct experiments; provide research support by conducting tests using specialized methods for data collection; interpret the collected data.
Work collaboratively with other employees, faculty and professionals to advance the goals of the project.
Observe, collect and analyze data and write summary reports as necessary.
Prepare reports, drafts and/or manuscripts based on the collected data.
May develop and maintain databases.
Incumbents may be responsible for orienting/training students and volunteers to the project/ program and checking work of less experienced employees as assigned.
Other duties as assigned.
