- Oversee, supervise, and collaborate with the Sustainability Education Specialist.
- Oversee supervise and collaborate with the Safe Routes to Schools Coordinator, and coordinates the implementation of the Safe Routes to Schools grant program which includes its education programs, walk and bike to school events, and other programs and events supporting the grant’s goals.
- Establish programs to promote energy conservation through analysis of data and positive feedback at all levels of the district. The function will include Involvement all personnel and students in taking ownership for the success of programs and development and training of personnel at both school and office sites with a focus on past practices, how these will change, as well as future sustainability.
- Oversee the tracking, monitoring and use of all utilities. Provide regular reporting of utilities and energy use to District leadership and groups that have a vested interest in energy use and consumption. Maintain licensure and input for various data and monitoring platforms.
- Develop and submit annual utility budgets for the operations budget in collaboration with the Executive Director of Operations. Ensure that the district is on proper utility rate schedules and is receiving correct billing.
- Identifies and manages all non-construction contracts necessary to support district-wide sustainability work.
- Oversee the auditing of district campuses to ensure that heating, cooling, electrical and other energy-consuming equipment is performing efficiently, including
- management of occupied and unoccupied times
- oversight of efficient energy usage by custodial staff during summer work programs
- hands-on performance of regular “walk-through” audits of all the district’s facilities to ensure operating efficiency.
- Write grants for energy and resource conservation projects such as, but not limited to, air conditioning, more efficient lighting, and irrigation systems.
- Review of the application of Sustainable Design Guidelines for capital projects, including consultation and ongoing coordination on sustainability features in capital projects.
- Collaborate in the annual update of the District’s preventive maintenance plan in conjunction with the Chief Operations Officer and the Executive Director of Operations.
- Coordinate the cafeteria/kitchen food waste collection program and service contract.
- Work with staff, New Mexico Public Schools Facility Authority (PSFA), and district departments to investigate the use of cost-efficient energy consuming equipment (HVAC,lighting, etc.), and to provide input for the purchase of products which affect energy and resource consumption in remodeling or upgrading of existing facilities.
- Work collaboratively with architects and engineers to ensure that all HVAC equipment, lighting and other systems recommended are cost effective and energy efficient in new construction.
- Provides project management as needed in coordination with the Chief Operations Officer and the Executive Director of Operations.
- Coordinate recycling programs as well as landfill waste and waste reduction programs with service contractors.
- Build community partnerships to enhance and promote energy conservation efforts. Utilize all media opportunities to promote successes of the District’s energy management program. Update and maintain the district’s sustainability website.
- Develop and maintain contact with Federal and State agencies involved in energy policy and funding, and monitor State and National energy policy trends.
- Maintain records of Federal energy conservation grants received by the district.
- Serve as district representative at management-level meetings, seminars, and conferences relating to energy and resource use and conservation.
- Seek out and procure utility rebates for energy and water efficiency projects and initiatives, and develop and execute, in coordination with the Executive Director of Operations, various energy and water conservation projects and initiatives.
- Submit facilities for EPA Energy Star verification and certification when appropriate.
- Collaborate with the Executive Director of Operations and the Director of Construction on the use of mill levy & General Obligation Bond funds
- Attend scheduled in-service meetings, seminars, and other informational opportunities on energy and resource management.
- Advise, assist and make recommendations to the Superintendent on alternative energy sources, consumption and general energy and resource conservation measures.

General Function:
Collaborates with all departments, district wide and at all levels, to maintain the best sustainability practices and implementation of the school district and Board of Education approved policies and Sustainability Guide. Provides oversight of the district’s energy management program with the purpose of reducing utility energy and resource consumption. Educates staff and students about the environmental need for changed behavior with regard to use of energy and natural resources. Assumes responsibility and accountability for reporting of energy and resource consumption, energy conservation program implementation, and employee involvement as part of the management at every level in the school district.
Education/Training/Experience
Minimum: Four-year degree in a related field. Two years’ organizational experience at a comparable level such as a school district, university, city, county, etc. Experience in planning and coordinating various complex activities and projects. Valid driver's license.
Preferred: Master’s degree in a related field of study such as environmental sciences, economic and/or social sustainability, or energy efficiency program development.

Salary Range:
$79,000 - $110,000
Knowledge/Skills and Abilities:
Must have effective communication skills, both oral and written; communicate respectfully and use of discretion. Must have the ability to educate and influence staff/students to change behaviors with regard to energy and resource conservation as set forth by District policy.
Must have the ability and willingness to further educate one’s self and increase knowledge of energy consuming equipment, energy conservation, and mechanical systems such as HVAC, geothermal, electrical, solar and other systems. Skills must include flexibility, organization, decision-making, and problem solving. Must have the ability to meet deadlines and work on multiple projects simultaneously. Must be able to coordinate the work of others. Must be able to interpret technical data and communicate with both technical and non-technical individuals.
Must be proficient with word processing, database, and spreadsheet software. Will be required to become proficient in the knowledge of District policies, demonstrate an independent work ethic, and use good judgment in implementation of policy. Must demonstrate the ability to analyze and interpret technical data and communicate it to non-technical individuals.
Resources Used in Performing Job Include (but are not limited to):
Standard office equipment, Google Office Suite, and Microsoft Office Suite, and various energy monitoring applications.
Physical/Cognitive Requirements:
Must be able to tactfully and effectively communicate to a wide range of people which includes, but is not limited to, students of all ages, support staff, educators, community members, elected officials, and district leadership. Must have the ability to maintain one’s composure under stressful settings. Must be able and amenable to performing frequent district wide travel and occasional prolonged and irregular hours, including occasional work on holidays, evenings and other periods when schools are closed. Must be able to bend, stoop and reach. Must be able to walk and stand for a long period. Must be able to push, pull, or lift at least 25 pounds.
Environmental Conditions:
Most work is performed in an indoor office setting and at school sites. Occasional out of town travel and working in confined spaces is sometimes required.
