Required
- Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school or possession of a General Equivalency Diploma (GED) certificate.
- One (1) year of experience in transportation services.
- Advanced degree(s) beyond the minimum degree requirement in a relevant field may be considered for some experience.
- Knowledge of all aspects of the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act, Fostering Connections Act, and Project Hope, the Virginia Education Program for Homeless Children and Youth.
- Familiarity with Fairfax County Public Schools transportation regulations and procedures.
- Proficiency in the use of technology.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment and take initiative.
- Ability to deal quickly and accurately with quantitative information.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Major Duties/Essential Functions
- Receives requests for transportation services and processes a large quantity of complex financial, personnel, and office-specific documents related to the transportation of homeless students.
- Reviews processed transactions for accuracy and completion, and maintains related detailed records.
- Resolves documentation problems and ensures all local, state, and federal regulations are met.
- Serves as a liaison between family members, the Department of Special Services, Office of Intervention and Prevention Services, Department of Transportation Services, county agencies, area bus and van transportation offices, school administrators, social workers, and homeless agencies.
- Coordinates with other counties to arrange transportation when necessary; maintains communication with students, parents, and guardians about transportation changes.
- Fields phone calls and e-mails about transportation services.
- Places students on buses, taxis, and vans, as required.
- Orders and distributes gas and metro cards for student transportation and maintains a tracking database.
- Represents the department's weekly staff meetings and discusses transportation requests.
- Accesses transportation-related databases including Special Transportation Application Request System and MapNet, as well as Schools Administrative Student Information system, and spreadsheets as required.
- Performs related duties as required or assigned.
