Our dairy cooperative is seeking a regular, full-time Shift Lead on 1st shift (7a-3p). The Shift Lead, under the direction of the Supervisor, works as a team member to ensure that GMPs, HACCP, SQF and Safety procedures are properly followed. The Shift Lead will provide leadership, direction and training to employees, ensuring that Company production and quality goals are met. Position has the primary responsibility to oversee all aspects of the production floor to include the product, equipment and staff. The Shift Lead will demonstrate enthusiasm, a positive attitude and intelligent sense of urgency in the performance of their role and in support of the Company.
Role and Responsibilities:
- Maintain Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and operate all equipment in accordance with the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Perform all work-related tasks using GMP by following the Food Safety and Food Quality requirements of the SQF Program. This includes the requirement to report all safety issues and incidents to the supervisor, or other member of the leadership team, immediately.
- Write, review and update SOPs as necessary.
- Verify that all required documents are filled out properly and are accurate in accordance with SQF procedures.
- Support Plant audit activities, which may include preparation, participation, support of corrective actions. Work with Quality and leadership to ensure Plant is audit ready.
- Understanding of critical control points for pasteurization.
- Provide adequate training to others on topics such as general safety, GMP, PPE, chemical safety and job-specific duties.
- Support Leadership regarding employee performance and performance reviews.
- Ensure that CIP settings are accurate and that proper step procedures are followed.
- Monitor equipment for proper sanitation, including breakdown and reassembly of equipment after cleaning.
- Provide positive leadership, direction to employees.
- Oversee operations to identify any nonconformances.
- Fill in for Supervisor during times of absence.
- Schedule flexibility, willingness to work overtime, weekends, support off-shift calls, rotate shift, as required.
- Adhere to Company rules, regulations and core values, including Code of Conduct.
- Attendance at required/specialized training and on-site meetings.
Perform all other duties, as assigned.
Qualification and Education Requirements:
- Minimum education: High School Diploma or GED.
- Minimum three-years of experience in a manufacturing setting required. Leadership experience highly preferred.

- Understand the role of the SQF practitioner in ensuring that food safety decisions are made using a risk-based approach. All food safety issues and incidents are to be reported to a member of the QA team directly by the Lead or through the Supervisor.
- Knowledge of SQF, HAACP, GMP and sanitation regulations.
- Good verbal and written communication skills and ability to read and understand charts/graphs.
- Microsoft Office skills – Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
- Pallet jack and forklift certification preferred.
Excellent interpersonal skills and positive attitude. Ability to grow and support a team environment.
Additional Notes:
Physical Requirements/Environment:
- Lift up to 55 lbs.
- Standing for extended periods of time (up to 10 hours), walking, climbing stairs, twisting, turning, bending, stooping, reaching, pushing and pulling.
- Although work is normally performed in a climate-controlled production atmosphere, exposure to airborne dust and high humidity and extremes of hot temperatures are possible.
Safety eyewear, footwear and hearing PPE required.
This is a full time (40 hours/week), 1st shift (7am-3pm) position. It offers a base rate pay of $35.38 per hour. This position also offers eligibility for rate increases every 6 months for the first 2 years of employment.
