JOB SUMMARY:

Shamrock Metal is seeking an estimator who thinks like a fabricator, not just crunches numbers. You will be responsible for developing strategic bids that include detailed cost breakdowns, alternative materials, risk flags, and recommendations to help leadership make informed go/no-go decisions. Beyond the numbers, you will own RFI and change order processes, verify material availability, and coordinate with vendors and outsourced processors.

This is an ownership role. You will need to work independently, manage your own output, and present solutions to the Senior Estimator.

We do expect smart questions, strategic thinking, and forward motion. You will thrive here if you are comfortable making assumptions, proposing solutions, and owning your work all the way through to handoff.

 ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

§ Develop detailed, strategic project estimates that include accurate costs, VE options, material alternates, risks, and clear recommendations.

§ Present your estimating approach and data to the Senior Estimator and leadership to support pricing strategy and prioritization.

§ Manufacturability Comprehension - Evaluate drawings, specifications, and conditions to determine whether a project can be built as shown, or if modifications are required to meet fabrication constraints.

§ Verify material availability and obtain up-to-date vendor pricing or quotes.

§ Coordinate outside services such as tube laser cutting, machining, or stretch forming when the scope requires it.

§ Manage the Request for Information (RFI) process to clarify gaps, conflicts, or design inconsistencies in the bid set.

§ Accurately price, document, and issue change order requests when scope evolves.

§ Build trust-based relationships with key clients to gain visibility into workload priorities, increase win rate, and reduce wasted effort on non-awarded bids.

§ Review shop drawings to identify variances from estimated assumptions and flag any downstream impacts.

§ Participate in project handoff meetings to communicate scope assumptions and cost drivers to the execution team.

§ Collaborate daily with internal teams - Purchasing, Shop, and Engineering, to ensure the estimate aligns with real-world feasibility, shop capabilities, and shop capacity.

§ Maintain clean documentation and organized estimate files using Bluebeam, Excel, Project Management Dashboard, and Microsoft Office.

An individual in this position must be able to successfully perform the essential duties and responsibilities listed above. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.

The above list reflects the general details necessary to describe the principle and essential functions of the position and shall not be construed as the only duties that may be assigned for the position.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

§ 3–5 years of experience estimating in architectural or ornamental metals, or a related custom fabrication trade (millwork, glazing, sheet metal)

§ Strong grasp of metal finishes, base material compatibility, and common fabrication/installation methods

§ Able to read and interpret architectural and shop drawings with accuracy and intent

§ Familiar with RFI workflows, change order pricing, and real-world risk evaluation

§ Self-directed, detail-oriented, and resourceful - you can move a project forward even when the drawings don’t tell the whole story

§ Comfortable interfacing with clients when needed, especially on complex scopes or clarifications

§ Effective communicator with strong writing and documentation skills, with the ability to effectively interact with all levels within the organization, as well as customers and vendors

§ Proficient in Bluebeam, Excel, and Microsoft Office (AutoCAD optional)

§ Experience coordinating outsourced fabrication or specialty finish processes
