DESCRIPTION

Michael Baker is currently looking to add a Senior Highway Engineer to join the Minneapolis, MN Team. This is a hybrid position with a flexible work schedule allowing for remote work and 1-2 days per week in the downtown Minneapolis office. The ideal candidate will focus on delivering transportation projects for a wide variety of clients both locally and across the country, including Design-Build opportunities. This individual will demonstrate advanced technical knowledge, expertise in preliminary and final highway design, delivery of projects in OpenRoads Designer, mentor junior staff, and contribute to strategic initiatives and business development. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare and/or supervise the preparation of studies, construction documents, technical specifications, calculations, maps, reports and other supporting documentation for transportation projects. 
  • Demonstrate complete knowledge of various CAD and Microsoft Office programs to produce high quality design documents, exhibits, computations and reports. 
  • Coordinate tasks and project schedules and budgets. 
  • Perform QA/QC reviews of drawings, reports, specifications and cost estimates. 
  • Communicate with clients regarding project issues, lead meetings as necessary. 
  • Review shop drawings for conformance with contract plans. 
  • Create accurate scope of work and budget/fee estimates through a developed understanding of the project. 
  • Coordinate with engineers and technicians to ensure accurate deliverables meeting client expectations. 
  • Perform detailed technical and peer reviews. 
  • Serve as the project 'task manager;' responsible for all facets of the task or discipline of the project. 
  • Responsible for document preparation for regulatory agencies to obtain required permits.
  • Responsible for maintaining technical knowledge through completion of various training initiatives: attending seminars, reviewing professional publications, attending in-house systems/management training.  
  • Responsible for proposal production and implementing marketing initiatives. 
  • Responsible for maintaining professional licensure. 
  • Occasionally visits project sites, monitoring project progress. 

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering.
  • 8+ years of relevant experience (Master’s degree may substitute for 1–2 years).
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license and maintain professional licensure.
  • High level of proficiency with various CAD software (including OpenRoads Designer) and Microsoft Office programs with the ability to produce high quality design documents, exhibits, computations, and reports.
  • Ability to work in a team environment while organizing and prioritizing changing workload.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully manage projects and meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills to manage projects and to enhance and develop client relationships.
  • Experience and understanding of Department of Transportation (DOT) design principles and submittal processes.
  • Experience serving as the Engineer of Record and/or Lead Designer on transportation projects and preliminary geometric layouts for DOT agencies. 
  • Experience supervising employees in various technical or professional positions. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

COMPENSATION 

The approximate compensation range for this position is $92,718 to $146,044. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting.  Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
