The City of Greensboro is seeking a detail-oriented and customer-focused IT Service Desk Support for a 1-year rostered appointment. This role is essential in keeping our technology running smoothly and ensuring employees across the organization have the tools and support they need to serve the community efficiently. Work Schedule:  Wednesday through Friday, 8 am – 5:00 pm – Approximately 24 hours per week

About the Role:
As a Service Desk Support, you will:

  • Provide first-level support for hardware, software, and peripheral issues.

  • Respond to and resolve technical problems quickly and effectively.

  • Assist with computer deployments, including receiving shipments, imaging, setup, configuration, and testing.

  • Prepare leased or expired equipment for return to the leasing company.

  • Maintain accurate documentation of service requests and resolutions.

  • Collaborate with IT team members to resolve escalated issues.

  • Ensure compliance with IT policies, procedures, and security protocols.

  • Support ongoing system upgrades, refreshes, and technology improvement projects.

  • This job is Non-Exempt and is subject to the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA)

  • Hourly Employment: Roster positions are paid hourly and do not include benefits such as medical, dental, or vision insurance, life insurance, paid leave, or paid holidays.
  • Limited Hours: Roster employees may work up to, but no more than, 1,000 hours in a 12-month period.  
  • Pension System: Roster positions are not eligible for membership in the city’s pension system.

While roster positions do not include benefits, they are often a pathway to full-time, benefited employment with the City. Many of our current full-time employees started in roster positions, and we encourage you to explore this opportunity as a potential first step in your career with us.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED 
  •  Experience with computers, including Windows and/or Mac operating systems.
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Term & Conditions:
      • This position is rostered for a fixed term of 1 year.
      • Position requires the employee to pay for parking
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with standard office software and common hardware components.
