JOB SUMMARY:
Mange the day-to-day DME front office administrative tasks and serve as a liaison between patients, providers, staff, and support departments. Duties also include answering phone calls, scheduling appointments, entering schedules in electronic health systems, and collaborating with the authorization department to assist patients in obtaining their products.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION:
Education:
· A High School diploma or equivalent.
· Graduate from an accredited business school or college with a focus on medical assistance preferred.
Qualifications:
· Current Medical Assistant certification or the ability to obtain within (6) months of employment.
· Current certification in basic life support (BLS) is required, or the ability to obtain before working independently with patients.
· Administrative experience preferred.
· Must possess excellent organizational and problem-solving skills. Must be able to communicate professionally and effectively with patients, staff, physicians, vendors, and coworkers.
· Must have excellent computer skills and proficiency with Windows, excel, Microsoft 365 based programs required.
· Must be organized and able to prioritize tasks and functions efficiently.
· Must possess a solid knowledge and understanding of medical terminology and basic coding knowledge; orthopedic terminology/coding preferred.
· Must have the ability to work independently and utilize time management, prioritize, and multi-tasking skills.
· Must show flexibility in altering schedules to accommodate department needs as necessary.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Greet patients/visitors in a professional, courteous, and pleasant manner.
· Verifies patient demographic information and updates computer systems.
· Follows designated workflows for the DME department.
· Process DME hospital orders
· Manages work ques for DME orders and precertification
· Reviews physian documentation to verify medical necessity has been met
· Assists with precertification as necessary
· Processes faxed documents following HIPPA guidelines
· Schedules patient appointments
· Performs fitting off-the-shelf orthosis and educates patients on proper donning and doffing of items.
· Performs necessary patient documentation to aid in precertification and accurate claim process.
