About the Department

JOB OBJECTIVE:  To develop, implement and maintain a safety and security management program for the Little Rock Zoo to ensure operations are in compliance with the safety standards and policies of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA), and all applicable federal, state, and local guidelines; to provide training to Zoo staff on emergency response plan procedures, safety protocols and procedures in compliance with AZA standards and City of Little Rock guidelines, policies, and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

These knowledge, skills, and abilities are usually, although not always, acquired through completion of two (2) years of college coursework or vocational technical school in Business Administration, Occupational Safety, Safety Administration, or a related area, and two (2) years of experience in risk management, employee safety program activities, to include one (1) year of experience developing and administering a safety program, or a related area, and one (1) year of computer experience.   Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:  
  • Must possess a valid Arkansas Class D (Non-Commercial Vehicle) Driver’s License before employment and maintain licensure for the duration of employment in this position.
  • Must be available to work nights, weekends and holidays as required.
  • Must possess Standard First Aid and Community CPR certifications, or other certifications which incorporate Standard First Aid and Infant, Child and Adult CPR, within six (6) months of employment, and maintain certifications for the duration of employment in this position.
  • Must possess a nationally recognized Firearms Instructor Certification from the National Rifle Association (NRA), National Law Enforcement Firearms Instructors Association (NLEFIA), or equivalent, within one (1) year of employment and maintain certification for the duration of employment in this position.
