JOB SUMMARY
The primary purpose of this position is to ensure a safe and secure environment for Members, Guests, and Employees of Vicar’s Landing through enforcement of policies and procedures, while also providing reliable, courteous, and professional transportation services. This position places a greater emphasis on transportation duties, including operating Vicar’s Landing vehicles requiring a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), ensuring the safe transport of Members, and maintaining transportation schedules and vehicle readiness.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide transportation services for Members, including scheduled and on-demand trips to medical appointments, shopping, events, and other destinations as assigned.
- Safely operate all assigned vehicles, including buses requiring a CDL, in compliance with federal, state, and local laws as well as company policies.
- Conduct pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections, reporting any maintenance or safety issues immediately.
- Maintain accurate transportation logs, mileage reports, and member transport records and charges.
- Assist Members with entering and exiting vehicles, including mobility assistance and securing wheelchairs or walkers as needed.
- Maintain a professional and courteous demeanor when interacting with Members, Guests, and Staff.
- Maintain a good working rapport with Members, Guests, and Personnel of this and other departments and assist whenever possible.
- Identify, report, and take corrective action on any safety hazards that could cause accidents (e.g., lighting, sidewalks, ground obstacles, etc.).
- Monitor and respond to two-way radio communication.
- Report any suspicious activities or crimes in progress to the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Department.
- Aid as required in emergency situations and be familiar with emergency procedures.
- Prepare all necessary reports and records connected with security, safety, and transportation, including daily logs and incident reports.
- Conduct regular security patrols of all buildings and grounds, ensuring doors and gates are secured, and safety systems are operational.
- Assist in the protection of life and property for Vicar’s Landing.
- Monitor and enforce parking regulations.
- Operate and reset the fire alarm panel as needed; be knowledgeable of system devices and procedures.
- Serve as first response for maintenance-related concerns, identifying and reporting any issues requiring attention.
- Maintain and communicate accurate shift pass-down notes and updates in the designated log.
- Ensure proper use of master keys only when conducting authorized business.
- Deliver packages, mail, and other materials to Members as needed.
- Relieve Front Desk Receptionist as required, including operating the multi-line PBX system.
- Perform other related duties as required or assigned.
Additionally:
- Transport members to and from the dining room during the evening meal. Using the golf cart or wheelchair in a safe manner.
- Make a security inspection walk through of all independent living buildings while on patrol, checking all floors, using the WATCHMAN'S TIME CLOCK, in accordance with proper shift schedule.
- Check exterior doors to ensure they are secured, and the door guard system is activated in the Health Center.
- Deliver packages and mail to independent living membership.
- Checks on maintenance required items notifying the on-call maintenance duty person of any
- Relieve Main Desk Receptionist as needed. Operates the multi-PBX system transferring phone calls etc.
- Make a security inspection walk though all independent living buildings.
- Secure West and North Buildings at 2200 checking that all-appropriate lighting is turned off (except for the security lights including restrooms).
- Secure the East building when staff leaves, checking that all-appropriate lighting is turned off.
- Kitchen-Check all gas appliances. Checking all control devices that they are in the off position. Observe exceptions and special instructions issued by the director of food services.
- Be alert of burnt-out lighting throughout the facility.
Qualifications
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Skills, Abilities & Competencies:
High school diploma or GED is required. Candidates must possess a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Passenger Endorsement and have at least two years of related experience in security, transportation, or a similar field. Previous experience operating shuttle or bus vehicles and transporting passengers is highly preferred. Knowledge of basic vehicle safety, inspection, and maintenance practices, along with a strong commitment to providing safe, dependable, and courteous service to Members and staff.

- Making false official statements.
- Engaging in any illegal activities on Vicar's Landing property.
- Sleeping on duty. It is mandatory to always remain alert while on duty.
- Divulging or discussing official department business.
- Serving your own private interests interferes with proper performance of duty.
- Displaying or carrying any type of weapon on one's person.
- The use of profanity.
Physical Requirements:
- Must maintain a current CPR certificate.
- Must be able to assist in moving patients.
- Must be able to move intermittently throughout the work period.
- Must be able to speak the English language in an understandable manner.
- Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
- Must function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with patients, personnel, and support agencies.
- Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability.
- May be required to perform duties in inclement weather.
General Appearance:
- Uniform jackets and shirts to be neat and clean.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, talk hear, and occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, and crouch. Employee must have excellent balance and be able to climb a ladder and walk around a roof. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds and be able to work at heights. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close, distance, and peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus as well as work on a computer for extended periods of time. The employee must be able to communicate verbally with other on the phone or in person.
