At The Standard, our people are the brand. The Director of Human Resources leads all aspects of the employee experience, from recruitment and onboarding to growth, recognition, and retention ensuring our culture stays as inspiring behind the scenes as it is in front of our guests.

This role oversees all Human Resources functions, including recruitment, employee relations, benefits administration, compliance, performance management, learning & development, and employee engagement. The Director serves as both strategic advisor and cultural ambassador, ensuring the property remains compliant, connected, and most importantly; human.

Reports To: General Manager
Division: Human Resources
Level of Responsibility: Executive
Core Knowledge Areas: Hotel HR Operations, Paycom, Labor & Employment Law, Employee Relations, Talent Development, Benefits Administration

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of relevant experience

  • Minimum 5 years of progressive Human Resources leadership experience, preferably in hospitality

  • Strong understanding of labor and employment laws, both federal and state

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; bilingual preferred but not required

  • Proven ability to recruit creatively and identify top talent

  • Strong leadership, organizational, and analytical skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and HRIS systems (Paycom experience preferred)

  • High level of confidentiality, integrity, and professionalism

  • Calm under pressure with the ability to multitask and prioritize effectively

  • A natural connector who believes in the power of culture and collaboration

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee full-cycle recruitment including job postings, interviews, offers, and onboarding

  • Maintain relationships with schools, community partners, and industry networks to attract top talent

  • Conduct background checks, prepare offer letters, and coordinate self-onboarding through Paycom

  • Lead and facilitate New Hire Orientation, ensuring a welcoming and engaging experience

  • Administer employee benefits, including medical, dental, vision, 401(k), and wellness programs

  • Conduct open enrollment and ensure compliance with all benefit regulations and reporting requirements

  • Manage Workers’ Compensation claims and follow-up in partnership with providers

  • Maintain all required records, OSHA logs, and legally mandated postings

  • Foster a positive and inclusive workplace culture through coaching, communication, and recognition

  • Guide managers through progressive discipline, performance management, and conflict resolution

  • Assign, track, and ensure completion of training and performance reviews

  • Partner with leadership to strengthen engagement, communication, and accountability across teams

  • Lead performance review cycles, ensuring consistency and timeliness across departments

  • Oversee wage audits and compliance with minimum wage and pay equity standards

  • Drive cultural initiatives, recognition programs, and team-building activities that reinforce The Standard’s spirit

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to the executive team on HR strategy, organizational design, and talent development

  • Manage HRIS workflows, including Paycom approvals, benefit tasks, and employee records

  • Oversee unemployment claims, separations, and exit interviews

  • Partner with the Controller on HR budgeting, purchasing, and reporting

  • Develop and maintain HR policies and procedures that align with both legal standards and brand culture

  • Actively participate in leadership discussions, contributing data-driven insights and people-focused strategies

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to hear and speak clearly to communicate effectively with employees and guests

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer

  • Ability to lift up to 10 lbs as needed
