The University Libraries empower intellectual exploration through building connections, collections, and community. As an active partner in the University’s academic programs, the libraries are a major contributor to WCU’s core mission of student success. The faculty members serve as both instructors of information literacy and stewards of library resources. The staff members support the operation of the libraries whether it be assisting patrons at help desks, making the various library resources ready for patron use, or providing access to library technology. The Resource Services Unit supports original and copy cataloging, metadata creation and management, acquisitions, electronic resources and discovery, and digital services and materials.
Reporting to the Associate Dean of University Libraries, the Resource Services Manager oversees the personnel, budget, equipment, and systems for the Resource Services Unit; develops, recommends, and implements metadata and cataloging practices, policies and procedures, and technologies optimize technical services workflows; and fosters collaboration with library faculty to support collection development, discoverability, preservation, and digital initiatives to support student success and faculty teaching and research. As a key member of the library administration team, the Resource Services Manager also participates in the development and implementation of strategic plan goals and strategies.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong supervisory and organizational leadership skills; a commitment to diversity and inclusivity; excellent communication and collaboration abilities; and will bring a strong vision to strategically assess gaps, identify areas for growth, and develop goals and strategies.
Responsibilities include:
- Manage operations for metadata, cataloging, acquisitions, electronic resources and discovery, preservation, and digital services and materials
- Develop and maintain documentation
- Implement staff training
- Manage Resource Service Unit staff including hiring, scheduling, appraisals and evaluations
- Oversee the budget, equipment, and systems
- Work collaboratively across University Libraries to develop and implement practices, policies, procedures, and technologies to optimize technical service workflows
- Maintain current knowledge of national and international standards and emerging practices for technical services including metadata, linked data, BIBFRAME, and WCAG guidelines, library systems, applications, and emerging technologies
- Maintain current knowledge of university policies, procedures, and collective bargaining agreements
- Collaboratively manage library systems and ILS
- Collaborate closely with the Director of Public Services on collection management, library systems, and staffing
- Participate in strategic plan development and implementation
- Participate as a member on the Assessment Steering Committee
- Participate in library committees, task forces, and project teams as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned
Position Duties
- Bachelor’s degree
- Three (3) years supervisory or management experience in technical or resource services
- Three (3) years library technical services experience including metadata, cataloging, acquisitions, digital collections, and/or electronic resources
- Three (3) years experience with library service platforms, tools, and applications
- Demonstrated project management experience
Minimum Qualifications
- An American Library Association Accredited Master’s degree or equivalent experience as a supervisor or manager in technical services
- Demonstrated experience with OCLC cataloging and metadata tools, electronic resource management systems (ERMS), special/rare materials cataloging, and/or licensing
- Demonstrated experience with Alma and PrimoVE or similar integrated library systems
- Demonstrated experience with ILS migration
- Demonstrated knowledge of standards and emerging practices for technical services
