The Manager of Obstetrical Services is responsible for the service line which includes the Hospital Obstetrics Department & the Center for Women's Health. Collaborating with the VP of Nursing Services and the Director of Clinic Operations, the Manager will guide, grow and develop a strong Obstetrical Service line for our surrounding community. This includes accountability in fiscal operations, enhancement in the patient experience, progression of nursing/clinical research and education, data collection, and assistance in departmental and organizational strategic planning. The Manager will provide leadership and direction for the overall operations of the Obstetrics Service Line in accordance with current federal, state, and organizational standards within the hospital and clinic setting.
Responsibilities of this position include:
- Works in partnership with the V.P. of Nursing & Director of Clinic Operations to strategically plan for various opportunities such as: service line growth, quality performance, regulatory guidelines, professional development, impending staffing shortages, staff retention and turnover, generational differences in the workforce, and financial and organizational sustainability.
- Participates in service line physician-based meetings, maintains & manages physician/APP provider relationships, and collaborates with medical staff to effectively manage, analyze data, and maximize growth opportunities within the service line.
- Monitors & maintains finances of service line. Initiates activities that contribute to the organization’s successes in financial, operational, service line and mission-driven outcomes. Prepares OB and clinic forecasting budgets and maintains operations within those guidelines. Prepares and submits capital requests with input from the physicians and department staff.
- Is committed to the growth & development to the Obstetrical Service line, including regularly assessing and responding to the line's strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT). Develops effective strategies to improve workflows, optimize operational processes, maximize staff engagement & retention, and build capacity & capability to handle the current needs & future growth of the Service Line.
- Monitors and works closely with the team regarding staffing-to-volume, quality improvement, best practice standards for nursing and providers, regulatory adherence, and budgetary requirements.
- Assists in planning, mentoring, and guiding new employees, physicians, and leaders within the service line.
- Performs staff, physician, and patient rounding frequently to identify organizational needs, enhance clinical quality, and improve the consumer's experience and overall satisfaction. Responds to patient customer service concerns with supportive listening, resolution and follow through as outlined in our grievance policy.
- Delivers feedback and demonstrates a professional approach at all times, working closely with administration, physicians, and the nursing services team to create a successful, healthy, and positive work environment in the clinic, on the inpatient unit, and throughout the organization.
- Maintains an awareness of organizational stakeholders; identifies opportunities for positive collaboration within the community in order to contribute achieving and lasting effects on the organization’s mission.
- Maintains policies and procedures to ensure compliance within Fort HealthCare and affiliated regulatory agencies.
- Understands the role of the Obstetrical RN. Actively supports Nursing Services Shared Governance structure, and leads at least two quality improvement initiatives at Fort HealthCare each year specific to the enhancement/strengthening of patient satisfaction, quality, and/or safety, incorporating Fort HealthCare's mission and vision.
- Understands the role of the clinics within the Fort HealthCare community, in addition to the Free Clinic, identifying how best to work with them to create partnerships, efficiency in workflow, and promote patient-primary care provider relationships.
Requirements for this position include:
- Bachelors Degree required
- Masters Degree preferred
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience as an RN; 3 years’ experience in managerial and/or leadership position required
- Previous management experience specific to Obstetrics preferred
- Advanced education in areas of health care, higher education, or community service strongly recommended. Excellent teaching, interpersonal and communication skills; confident in speaking to groups; clearly communicates instructions, ideas and techniques. Able to communicate exceptionally well with administrative and management team, physicians, nursing staff, patients, and family members. Able to react in a calm, non-defensive, professional manner in any circumstance. Offers positive and efficient support, along with clear directions to inpatient leadership team; able to recognize and respond to non-verbal cues and communication.
- RN license to practice nursing in Wisconsin upon hire; maintains all required licenses, certifications or registrations required for this position
- ANCC Nurse Executive - Board Certified; Master’s degree is in Nursing Administration, Healthcare, or Business preferred
