The term of this appointment will be a maximum of up to 4 Years. All persons hired into Limited Term Employment (LTE) positions will be required to sign a term of employment letter specifying conditions of employment.
Hours of Work: 4/10's. 5:30am-4:00pm Monday - Thursday OR Tuesday-Friday. Shift to be determined on business needs.
This position will be responsible for completing an assortment of tasks in the Field Services department including Meter Change Outs ranging in sizes from 5/8” to 1”, replacing meter box lids, as well as maintenance of meters associated with AMR and AMI equipment.
The ideal candidate will be able to prioritize multiple tasks effectively and adapt to changes in their daily work. Interact with customers in the course of carrying out job duties while creating positive experiences for customers using tact, patience, and understanding in all interactions. Have the ability to work in various working and climatic conditions. A valid Nevada driver's license is required at time of hire.
GENERAL PURPOSE
Under general supervision, performs a variety of duties involved in the reading, installation, maintenance and repair of water meters and AMR/AMI devices for residential, commercial and industrial customers; interacts with customers and responds to inquiries and complaints.
DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
Geography of the District's service area; basic brand negotiation, terrain association and map reading techniques; operation of handheld, laptop and personal computers; arithmetic and record keeping methods and practices; safety practices, safe work methods and safety regulations pertaining to the work; techniques, tools and equipment and District Service Rules, codes, ordinances, policies and regulations applicable to the reading, installation, maintenance and repair of water meters/AMR/AMI devices; computer applications and field activity codes related to the work; Safe Drinking Water Act and EPA regulations as they apply to the work; operator-level vehicle maintenance methods and practices.
Some assignments require knowledge of: use and operation of oxyacetylene equipment and materials; methods and practices of confined space entry and their application to compressed gases.
Ability to:
Learn, understand and apply detailed instructions and procedures required to read, install, maintain and replace water meters up to One inch in diameter; perform shop math; use hand and power tools common to the trade; safely operate a motor vehicle; navigate by using maps and terrain association; exercise initiative and good judgment with limited supervision to identify and implement effective courses of action to complete assigned work in a timely, efficient manner; inspect and perform operator-level maintenance on assigned motor vehicles; communicate effectively, orally and in writing; use tact, patience and understanding in dealing with customers and the public; establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, representatives of other divisions and departments and others encountered in the course of work.
Training and Experience:
The following are typical ways of obtaining the knowledges, skills and abilities outlined above:
Meter Service Field Representative I - Graduation from high school or G.E.D. equivalent and one year of experience involving public contact; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Experience in using handheld, laptop and personal computers is highly desirable.
Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements:
A valid Nevada driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the District's Vehicle Insurance Policy.
