SUMMARY: The Production Manager is responsible for operations, production, safety and policy enforcement for the processing departments. They will have supervisory responsibility over appropriate Production Supervisors. Other responsibilities include production scheduling, ensuring daily reports are being completed accurately and timely, and ensuring supervisor’s daily/weekly time sheets are properly filled out and approved. Coordinate production needs with Maintenance Manager to ensure minimum downtime for preventative maintenance. Ensure standard yields and production efficiencies are achieved and repeated consistently. Plan and review all project work with the Senior Operations Manager. Maintain high standards of integrity, attention to detail, staff motivation and the willingness/flexibility to work through peak work cycles.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES including the following:
- Overseeing day-to-day plant operations, identifying problems and developing and implementing corrective and preventative measures.
- Ensure operations personnel follow the established procedures for start-up, operation, and shutdown of the plant.
- Follow production reports and troubleshoot any issues during operation. Offer potential solutions and report issues daily to management.
- Ensure prescribed checks and monitoring of all operating equipment are carried out as required.
- Establish and ensure that safety policies and procedures are always followed.
- Maintain proper records and logs of activities, operating conditions, and down time.
- Work closely with Purchasing Manager to ensure adequate supplies are available.
- Interface with customers, suppliers, vendors, senior staff, staff support.
- Assure proper production schedules are updated and maintained.
- Understand, support and help implement/maintain the Quality Management System (QMS), Operating Policies, and Daily’s safety programs.
- Understand, support and help implement goals and objectives, and on-going improvement plans and activities.
- Provide leadership, motivation and guidance for our members of management.
- Lead and Facilitate production meetings with direct reports.
- Perform other duties and assignments as directed by Daily’s management.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENT: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor of Science degree is preferred. Five (5) or more years related experience in leadership roles. Prior experience in bacon production or further processed meats is required.
LANGUAGE/COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret in the English language correspondence, general business reports, professional journals, technical procedures or Government regulations. Ability to write clear, accurate and concise reports and business correspondence. Must be able to effectively present information and respond to questions from Supervisors, regulators, consultants, and the upper management. Have daily formal and informal contact with Senior Operations Manager and Department Supervisors. Bilingual (Spanish) a plus.
OTHER SKILLS: Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint to prepare and develop schedules, reports, and tracking information. Will aid in the configuration and implementation of the company’s ERP system. Will aid in configuration and maintenance of plant’s CAT squared production and tracking systems and HAT QC systems.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to apply mathematical formulas to practical situations
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Must be able to make decisions on routine matters of policies. Ability to define and solve practical problems, collect and analyze data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to deal with several abstract and concrete variables in handling situations.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The employee will occasionally lift and/or move 25 lbs., seldom lift and/or move more than 50 pounds. Will spend approximately 70%/30% floor time to office time. The employee will be required to move about the facility, could be standing/walking on concrete floors up to 10+ hours per day, 6 days per week. The employee is required to sit, use hand to finger coordination; handle or feel objects, tools or controls. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Standing, stooping, walking, bending, and climbing are all expected physical abilities, with or without accommodations.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the employee routinely works near moving mechanical parts and is exposed to wet, cold and/or humid conditions in both inside and outside environments. The noise level in the work environment is usually at a level where OSHA required hearing protection is required.
NORMAL WORK SCHEDULE: The hours and days of work are established as needed by operations and at the discretion of management and may be adjusted (increased or decreased) by management as required. Must be able to work a flexible schedule as necessary, weekends and off shifts.
