The individual occupying this position is responsible for providing direction to firefighters in areas of fire suppression, fire training, apparatus/equipment readiness, safety, and facility cleanliness.
Must reside in the Butte Fire Service Area or be willing to move to the area.

Minimum Qualifications
State of Alaska Firefighter I certification. One (1) year of service in the Matanuska Susitna Borough Fire Service Area. Familiarity with supervisory principles and practices. Prior training in strategy and tactics.
Apparatus engineer certification.
Completion of Incident Command System (ICS) courses, ICS 100 and IS 700 within ninety (90) days of hire, ICS 300 within nine (9) months of hire, and ICS 200 and IS 800 within one (1) year of hire.
Blood Borne Pathogens and HazCom courses required prior to initial assignment or within ten days of hire, whichever comes first.
Current First-Aid and CPR certifications
Valid Alaska driver's license required with an acceptable driving record and criminal history.
Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen, background check and physical.
Leads fire attack crews and/or functions as a sector/division supervisor in wildland and structure fire emergencies. Operates hose lines, fire streams, forcible entry tools, ventilation fans/blowers, salvage and overhaul equipment, hand tools, power tools, and other equipment related to fire suppression. Checks for compliance with department and/or borough Standard Operating Procedures.
When assigned the responsibility, ensures apparatus/equipment is properly cared for, fully operational, cleaned, and returned to service after emergency operations or training exercises.
Participates and assists in the development and delivery of training exercises and programs.
Recognizes operational and training needs, and recommends methods to address such needs.
Properly completes and files reports such as ANFIRS, run reports, training and attendance records, property damage and injury reports, maintenance repair requests, and other reports that may be required by the department and/or borough.
Provides supervision, leadership, and direction to firefighters and engineers including but not limited to coaching/mentoring, progressive discipline, investigation and documentation, work and station duty assignments, on-scene firefighter supervision, and other delegated supervisory responsibilities, as required.
Effectively interfaces with other emergency services' personnel.
Attends a minimum of 50 percent of regularly scheduled department trainings.
Attends and participates in at least 80 percent of officers' meetings.
Demonstrates leadership and supervisory competency when functioning as a crew leader or supervisor during emergency operations.
Adherence to lines of authority in emergency and non-emergency situations as defined by the department and/or Borough.
Successfully completes non-emergency and station duties and responsibilities, and performs other job-related tasks as assigned.
