About First Medical Associates

First Medical Associates is a leading, technology-driven primary care organization serving patients across Maryland. Our mission is to make healthcare smarter, faster, and more human — powered by great people and cutting-edge technology.

We are seeking a Medical Informatics Specialist to join our growing administrative and clinical operations team. The ideal candidate will combine strong analytical and technical skills with a passion for improving healthcare quality and efficiency through data-driven decision-making.

Position Summary

The Medical Informatics Specialist supports the collection, integration, and presentation of clinical data to enhance care coordination, population health, and quality improvement initiatives. This role bridges the gap between technology and clinical operations — helping providers and leadership teams use data to make informed decisions and improve patient outcomes.

You’ll work closely with our Chief Medical Officer (CMO), practice administrators, and medical board to translate complex health data into actionable insights, train staff on EMR workflows, and streamline ACO reporting requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the CMO and data analytics team to prepare and present performance metrics to the medical board and ACO partners.

  • Support providers with EMR training, onboarding, and optimization of documentation workflows.

  • Perform regular audits and data validation within EMR and population health platforms to ensure data accuracy and completeness.

  • Extract, clean, and analyze clinical and operational data to identify trends in quality measures, patient outcomes, and practice performance.

  • Develop and maintain dashboards, reports, and visualizations to support data-driven decision-making.

  • Assist with ACO data submissions, MIPS reporting, and value-based care metrics tracking.

  • Collaborate with IT and compliance teams to maintain data integrity, HIPAA security, and interoperability standards.

  • Serve as a liaison between clinical, administrative, and technical teams to ensure effective use of informatics tools and data systems.

  • Support ongoing quality improvement initiatives and new program development through data analysis and outcome tracking.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in medical informatics, clinical data analytics, EMR administration, or healthcare data management.

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.

  • Proficiency in Athenahealth (preferred) or other EMR systems, data reporting tools, and Microsoft Excel/Google Sheets.

  • Understanding of clinical workflows, population health metrics, and value-based care reporting (ACO, MIPS, HEDIS, etc.).

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present findings to clinical and administrative leaders.

  • Familiarity with HIPAA, healthcare data standards, and clinical terminology.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting ACO or value-based care data initiatives.

  • Experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or Looker Studio.

  • Familiarity with healthcare quality reporting metrics and performance improvement frameworks.

  • Health Informatics Certification or Training

Why Join First Medical Associates

  • Collaborative team culture with open communication and ongoing learning opportunities.

  • Competitive compensation, benefits, and a supportive environment where your contributions directly impact patient care and practice success.
