At Hands of Heartland, we operate on the idea that people with developmental disabilities can do just about anything they put their minds to and that they deserve a safe, supportive, and creative community in which to explore and achieve their aspirations. We are looking for someone to join our Nursing department as we grow and serve more individuals. This position will be located at a Residential Care Facility serving children in Tulsa, OK. We are looking to fill a split shift role working Friday-Monday.

The Registered Nurse/RN provides routine and emergency assessments and nursing care to ensure optimal health status for each individual we support.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Coordinate physician and health care services for people served
  • Conduct health care assessments and write health care plans
  • Facility training and orientation of new staff regarding healthcare procedures
  • Provide on call assistance to staff as needed
  • Documentation is completed in an accurate and timely manner on the appropriate forms
  • Engage in health promotion, prevention, and education activities (i.e., assess for risky behaviors and attempt behavior change).
  • Assess acute and chronic conditions that could result in rapid physiological deterioration of life-threatening instability.
  • Facilitate admissions, transfers, and/or discharges of patients
  • Manage the medication system, administer and document medication treatment.
  • Screen and monitor participants for medical problems/side effects.
  • Other duties as assigned

Education & Experience

  • Must be able to be licensed as a RN and able to work in the state of Oklahoma/Will consider Licensed LPN with experience
  • 1 year of general nursing experience, preferably in IDD
  • A valid driver's license, good driving record, and reliable transportation is required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Must have excellent time management skills
  • Must possess well developed interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with all levels of staff within the organization.  
  • Must be highly organized and responsive to immediate needs.  
  • Must have sufficient knowledge of computer systems (Word, Excel and Outlook) to develop and maintain necessary programs to support quality assurance activities. 

Essential Functions/Physical Requirements

Good hearing and visual skills; ability to bend, stoop, sit, stand, reach, and lift up to 25 pounds
