Job Summary: 

Wyyerd Fiber is seeking a highly skilled and motivated SMB (Small and Medium Business) Fiber Engineer to join our growing team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, costing, and creating detailed scope of works for all SMB projects. This role involves field work, technical design, coordination with construction teams, sales teams, and ensuring timely and high-quality fiber delivery to business customers. 

Key Responsibilities: 

1. Fiber Design & Planning: 

  • Design fiber-optic paths and architecture for SMB customers (FTTP/FTTB). 
  • Utilize GIS, CAD, and fiber design tools to develop construction-ready designs. 
  • Coordinate with internal teams and 3rd party vendors for permits and planning. 


2.Field Engineering: ○ 

  • Conduct site surveys and feasibility studies to evaluate fiber serviceability. 
  • Identify best routing options for fiber drops and lateral extensions. 
  • Provide engineering support during and after fiber installation. 


3. Project Management: 

  • Manage multiple fiber deployment projects for SMB customers. 
  • Work cross-functionally with construction, sales engineering, and provisioning teams. 
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget. 


4. Documentation & Compliance: 

  • Maintain accurate documentation of fiber routes, splicing, and network elements. 
  • Ensure compliance with local codes, standards, and safety regulations. 
  • Update asset databases and engineering records (e.g., Fiber Management Systems). 


5. Customer Engagement: 

  • Collaborate with pre-sales and sales teams to assess customer needs. 
  • Act as a technical point of contact during the customer onboarding process. 


Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience). 
  • 3+ years of experience in fiber-optic engineering or network deployment. 
  • Strong knowledge of fiber technologies. 
  • Proficiency in tools such as AutoCAD, GIS, Visio, or Fiber Management Software (e.g., VETRO, OSPInsight). 
  • Familiarity with permitting, make-ready, and utility regulations. 
  • Excellent problem-solving and project coordination skills. 
  • Ability to travel locally to customer and job sites as needed. 


Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience working with small and medium business customers. 
  • Understanding of last-mile fiber design and deployment challenges. 
  • Knowledge of construction workflows and telecom permitting processes. 


Work Environment: 

  • Hybrid of office and field-based work. 
  • Must be able to work outdoors in various weather conditions when required. 
  • Occasional lifting of tools and equipment up to 25 lbs
