Are you a change champion that is interested in keeping food out of the landfill and getting it into the hands of those that need it?
The City of Edmonton’s Waste Services team is looking for a highly organized and community-focused Commercial Food Waste Pilot Coordinator to support a critical environmental initiative. This position will be instrumental in the success of the Commercial Food Waste Pilot, a key project advancing our 25-year waste strategy and supporting the City's climate goals by reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
What Will You Do?
Lead the recruitment of new business participants through direct outreach, including door-to-door canvassing, alongside our waste collection partner representatives
Provide ongoing support to active participants, including delivering compostable bags and indoor containers, and conducting scheduled site visits and surveys
Act as the day-to-day coordinator for the pilot, managing reporting, schedule, and workflow
Liaise with food rescue and organics diversion industry partners through the Circular Innovation Council (CIC)
Support the creation and distribution of marketing and communication resources (e.g., brochures, presentations, training documents) for new and existing participants
Collect essential pilot impact data through in-person surveys and communication to support project analysis and reporting
Address and resolve operational challenges such as arranging for additional materials, assisting with missed pickups, and providing answers to frequently asked questions
Completion of the twelfth (12th) school grade
Some experience in coordinating environmental research and programming
Assets:
Experience working in waste management in a public or private setting
Experience in environmental monitoring
Skills Required for Success:
Exceptional ability to multi-task and manage competing priorities effectively
Proficiency in Google Workspace applications including Sheets and Docs
Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills, especially for engaging with business owners and community partners
You will be a crucial point of contact for external partners and participants, requiring strong customer service and social marketing skills
The ability to work independently and as a supportive member of a project team

Conditions of Employment:
Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent)
Must arrange own transportation to be reimbursed in accordance with the City of Edmonton policy. This may require business auto insurance

Work Environment:
The work is a mix of indoor and outdoor activities. You will frequently be walking and standing while canvassing and conducting site visits, which may expose you to precipitation (rain, snow) and extreme temperatures
Note: This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite as per the Letter of Understanding between the City of Edmonton and Civic Service Union 52
The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance

Salary Range: $22.194 - $26.899 (Hourly)
