Job Description
BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the supervision of the principal or assistant principal at the school site, assist the teacher in the operation of classrooms and in the facilitating instruction to students. Assists in the student supervision outside of the classroom setting.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Assists in the planning strategies used in the instruction of students within specific programs.
- Monitors’ testing, assembles instructional materials, duplicates materials and assists in assembling bulletin boards, learning centers and other areas within the classrooms.
- Assists in facilitating instructional programs, working with students on an individual basis and/or within small groups.
- As assigned, supervises activities of children on the playground, in the cafeteria, on walkways and in maintaining general order.
- Performs routine clerical functions, such as duplicating materials, record keeping, correcting form tests and daily student work.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE:
- Knowledge of emergency procedures.
- Knowledge of safety procedures.
SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Demonstrate the ability to use the English language correctly in written form and the ability to articulate orally.
- Demonstrate ability to punctuate, spell and work with basic math functions.
- Demonstrate interest and concern for school age children and their welfare.
- Demonstrates ability and temperament needed to work with students who have special needs..
- Demonstrates ability to work with students who have special needs.
- Make recommendation related for student/school safety issues and programs.
- Establish and maintain effective relationships with other staff, students and parents.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma or equivalent or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Pass a District proficiency test or have Proof of AA degree
- Valid California Driver’s license or Valid ID.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.

EVALUATION PROTOCOL:
Evaluator: Site Principal
Probationary Period: Probation period will commence the 1st working day after board approval and conclude at the end of the 9th month from that date.
Evaluation Period: During the probation period evaluations shall occur at least twice prior to attaining permanent status. After permanent status, evaluations will occur on or before April 1st of each year.
