The Role

 

Join our Engineering department as a Senior Assurance Engineer, where you'll play a vital role in providing Technical Assurance to a specific Refinery Production Unit for all medium and long-term activities related to mechanical assets. This is an opportunity to leverage your expertise and enhance the reliability and efficiency of our mechanical assets.

 

Principal Accountabilities:

 

  • Oversee Mechanical Engineering support to optimize plant availability, enhance performance, ensure equipment reliability, and manage costs.  This role takes an active lead on all issues on the PU and distributes the work within the team accordingly.
  • To provide short term (day-to-day) and long-term Mechanical Engineering support to optimise plant availability, performance, equipment reliability and cost. 
  • To ensure mechanical asset integrity is maintained and meets the requirements of health, safety and environmental regulations as required for a top tier COMAH site. This includes all aspects of static and rotating mechanical equipment.
  • To ensure compliance with the company, site, national and international standards with respect to equipment maintenance and to maintain the overall condition of the asset base and its operation.
  • The Senior mechanical engineer is responsible for supporting and developing the PU Mechanical Assurance Engineer, AO engineer and Graduate engineer.

 

Technical Accountabilities:

 

  • To provide design and mechanical development for management of change documents and processes and act as the Production Unit nominated signatory and counter signatory for the PU Mechanical Assurance Engineer, graduate, and AO engineer.
  • To manage and authorise operational risk assessments and inspection deferrals on the production unit on behalf of the PU manager.
  • To support the planning, preparation and execution of major and minor site turnarounds including scope definition and optimisation. This role has the specific responsibility to ensure that the outcomes of scope optimisation (e.g. deferral of scheduled events) have been addressed in advance of the Turnaround Event
  • To provide engineering assurance for the Production Unit with regards to the management of statutory and non-statutory inspection events and general maintenance in line with the applicable Essar Business Process.
  • Working closely with the maintenance delivery manager to ensure that key assurance work and MOC’s are delivered in accordance with the sites QA standards and assuring quality through audits and checks.
  • Participation with the production unit’s risk-based Inspection processes and SWSE sign off and approvals. This will be working closely with the process engineering and Inspection departments to ensure accuracy of the plants’ corrosion loops and inspection strategy.
  • To provide mechanical support to the Projects Department, participating in various stages of the project process (e.g. scoping, design, execution, construction, and procurement) attending regular project meetings and design reviews.
  • Project management of minor Non-Standard REVEX projects under the EET Fuels management of change system
  • Responsible for the development of the CAPEX plan for the asset and tracking the responsible party for each item.
  • Analyse performance and support the Production Unit Bad Actor and MTA process for mechanical assets.
  • Conducting Root Cause Analysis, incident investigations and Reliability Centred Maintenance reviews
  • Responsible for the PU records management and MOC KPI’s with the other PU disciplines
  • Provide out of normal working hours support where necessary.

About You

 

Our ideal candidate should have the following, Chartered engineer or following a Company approved route to CEng/IEng status or Nominated Engineer / MOC signatory.  Proven practical experience in process plant engineering needed.   You should have a working knowledge of downstream oil and gas static and rotating process equipment, safety procedures and systems (e.g. Pipework, heat exchangers, relief valves, pressure vessels, tanks, pumps, turbines, compressors, and columns) with a good awareness of national and international Engineering standards (e.g. API, ASME, BS) and ability to research and apply to mechanical assurance work.  You should have experience with risk assessment and mitigation.

 

You should have the ability to manage a wide range of complex engineering issues simultaneously to tight deadlines, budgets, and ability to rigorously prioritize work.  Results orientated and able to work under pressure in a fast-paced reactive environment with strong interpersonal, communication and influencing skills and strong problem solver, self-motivated and proactive.
