Job Summary


The Academic Support position primarily provides assistance to the College Development Director and supports the academic branch of the College. The position will play an active role in assisting with all academic-related activities, such as assessment, accreditation, tutoring, budgeting, and all other duties assigned by the College Development Director. The person in this role is expected to exercise sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, and demonstrate professionalism in all interactions. 


Essential Responsibilities & Duties 


  • Provide administrative support to the College Development Director, including managing calendars, scheduling meetings, and coordinating travel.
  • Prepare reports, agendas, meeting minutes, and other documents as requested.
  • Assist with academic-related strategic initiatives and projects, such as tutoring, assessment, accreditation, program review, practicum evaluations, among others.
  • Act as liaison between James River College and Evangel University to coordinate the academic calendar, textbook adoptions, academic advising, and students’ class schedule changes.
  • Coordinate logistics for academic meetings and special events (e.g., Faculty Workshops and Accreditation Visits), including room reservations, catering, and technology needs.
  • Monitor, prioritize, and respond to incoming communications, including phone calls, emails, and written correspondence.
  • Support budget tracking, expense reports, and financial documentation for the College Development Director.
  • Maintain accurate and organized records, files, and databases.
  • Ensure confidentiality of sensitive information and handle matters requiring discretion.
  • Represent the College in a professional manner, upholding the values and mission of James River College and James River Church.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Three (3) years in an administrative support function; OR 
  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Experience in a K-12 or higher education institution setting preferred.


Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Strong administrative and communication skills. 
  • Ability to perform secretarial and clerical duties with speed and accuracy without immediate and constant supervision.
  • Advanced knowledge of James River College and James River Church.
  • Ability and strong desire to communicate with and assist college students.
  • Knowledge of modern office methods and procedures, telephone techniques, office equipment, and software, such as Microsoft Outlook, OneDrive, Canvas, and MailChimp.
  • Displays masterful use of the English language by utilizing correct spelling, grammar, and punctuation with professional and warm tone.
  • Exhibits good judgment, honesty, integrity, responsibility, and punctuality through the utilization of professional work standards.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervising personnel, co-workers, civic organizations, business professionals, and the general public.

8. Maintain loyalty to the staff and church, actively promoting unity within the church.
