Your Experience Matters

Do you believe everyone deserves a safe, stable place to call home? Are you passionate about helping individuals overcome barriers to independent living? We’re looking for a compassionate and detail-oriented Housing Specialist to help connect individuals with affordable, accessible housing as they transition out of institutional settings or navigate housing instability in the community.

This role is part of a vital program, providing supports and services throughout Orange and Dutchess counties, that empowers people to live independently with the right supports in place. You'll work directly with individuals to secure housing that meets their needs and helps them thrive.

  • Coordinate with a team of support professionals, including Independent Living Specialists, Transition Specialists, Service Coordinators, and Care Managers, to ensure a solid plan is in place for each person’s transition.
  • Follow up after move-in to verify housing stability, assist with energy assistance applications, and ensure continued program eligibility.
  • Build and maintain relationships with landlords and housing providers to expand options for future participants.
  • Keep an up-to-date list of available units in the region, including details about accessibility, location, nearby services, and rental costs.
  • Track and document your work in a statewide database to support program reporting and improvement.
  • Attend trainings and team meetings to stay informed and connected.

  • You understand the challenges faced by people with disabilities or those exiting institutional care and are committed to supporting their independence.
  • You are familiar with local and state housing systems and have a working knowledge of fair housing laws and policies or are eager to learn.
  • You are organized, flexible, and able to adapt to changing needs.
  • You are comfortable using databases, Microsoft Office tools, and online systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of Orange and Dutchess Counties resources and community programs.
