The City of Auburn is looking for a talented Chief Prosecutor to add to our team!  This position performs professional, legal, and supervisory work with primary responsibilities for the prosecution of criminal misdemeanors and traffic infractions for the City and the supervision of city prosecutors and support staff, including four (4) city prosecutors and three (3) support staff.

Position Duties

In this role, you will: 


  • Handles court proceedings including, but not limited to, arraignments, pre-trial hearings and motions, jury and bench trials, sentencings, review hearings, and appeals.

  • Supervises prosecution Legal Assistants, to include participating in their hiring, discipline, and training; formally evaluates performance and recommends training.

  • Acts as the prosecution team leader under the direction of the City Attorney and/or Deputy City Attorney.

  • Proposes City criminal code/ordinances changes when needed or advisable.

  • Works courteously, cooperatively, effectively, and professionally with public officials, City Staff, the Police Department, the Courts, private attorneys, public defenders, supervisors, and the public in prosecutions and in carrying out duties and responsibilities of the position.

  • Assists in managing the criminal prosecution caseload, coordinates the prosecution team meetings for effective and efficient case management.

Minimum Qualifications

Required Qualifications: 

  • Graduation from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association and licensed to practice in the State of Washington

AND

  • five (5) years experience prosecuting criminal misdemeanor cases and traffic violation cases or equivalent experience.  


Required Licenses: 


NOTE: This position will be required to be fingerprinted and complete the CJIS (Criminal Justice Information Services) Security Certification Test to be allowed to view sensitive information and have unescorted access while at the Police Department (per Washington State Patrol ACCESS unit).

  • Possesses and retains a valid state driver’s license without impending loss at time of appointment. 


Highly Desirable Qualifications:
  •  Successful supervisory experience preferred.
