POSITION SUMMARY

The Yard Driver is responsible for the safe and efficient movement of trailers and containers in and out of dock doors and around the yard of the facility. In addition to yard operations, the Yard Driver will also go on the road for short hauls, including transferring tractor-trailer equipment between local facilities or delivering to nearby partners.

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES

• Perform pre- and post-trip inspections on yard tractors and trailers, ensuring they are in good working condition. Prior to moving any equipment to the door, you must report any maintenance issue(s) immediately to the Director of Fleet Maintenance, Shipping Manager, or the Director of Compliance.
• Regularly help safely secure the loads for the drivers before and after interstate and local deliveries.
• Safely and efficiently move trailers within the yard, positioning them for loading and unloading, and ensuring proper handling and storage of freight. 
• You must verify that all trailers have 2 load bars prior to backing into the bay door.  
• Trailer doors should only be opened once you are in front of the bay doors, to be loaded or unloaded.
• Trailer doors should be closed immediately, before moving from the bay doors, once you have secured your load or once unloaded.
• Make deliveries on the road for short hauls, including transferring tractor-trailer equipment between local facilities or delivering to nearby partners.
• As needed, driving company vehicle to transport drivers to and from the facility.
• Monitor and maintain yard organization to optimize space and ensure efficient workflow.
• Collaborate effectively with the Director of Fleet Maintenance, warehouse staff, and other team members to coordinate operations.
• Maintain accurate records of trailer movements, yard inventory, and any issues or repairs.
• Operate company commercial vehicles safely and efficiently in accordance with DOT, FMCSA, and company standards.
• You must adhere to all Pero Transport, LLC policies and any relevant safety regulations at all times.

SAFETY GUIDELINES

• Safe operation of yard tractors (also known as yard mules, hostlers, shunt trucks, etc.) according to the manufacturer's instructions. This includes pre-trip inspections, proper coupling and uncoupling techniques, and safe maneuvering within the yard.
• Use 3 points of contact when entering or exiting vehicles.
• Be aware of your surroundings at all times. Utilize spotters when necessary for maneuvering in areas with obstructed views and maintain a safe distance from other vehicles.
• Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), such as high-visibility vests.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE

• Minimum of (3) years with CDL A experience
• Current Medical Card
• Safe Driving Record
• Abide by all Local, State, and Federal Laws and regulations
• Operate a 10,000 Ibs + 53' Tractor-Trailer in a safe and professional manner
