As our organization continues to grow, we are seeking a collaborative and detail-oriented HR Generalist to join our team in Mount Vernon, Washington, who is passionate about advancing our mission and strengthening our people operations. This role offers the opportunity to make an impact while supporting staff across all levels of the organization. This is a full-time, hybrid role.
The HR Generalist is responsible for the day-to-day administration and coordination of HR programs, ensuring that employees and managers receive timely, accurate, and supportive guidance. This role will manage the employee lifecycle from onboarding to offboarding, maintain HR systems and compliance, coordinate benefits administration, and support performance management processes. This position partners closely with organizational leadership.
What You Will Do
HR Operations
- Coordinate full-cycle onboarding and offboarding (orientation, documentation, system access).
- Support recruiting activities (job postings, candidate communication, interview scheduling, reference checks).
- Maintain employee files and data integrity within the HRIS.
- Respond to employee inquiries regarding HR policies, procedures, and programs.
HRIS & Process Management
- Administer HRIS processes and workflows, ensuring accurate data and timely updates.
- Partner with leadership to enhance HRIS utilization, including automation and reporting.
- Develop SOPs and process guides to enable supervisors to handle routine HR-related responsibilities.
Benefits & Payroll Coordination
- Administer employee benefits programs (enrollments, changes, questions, and liaison with broker).
- In partnership with leadership, manage annual benefits renewals and Open Enrollment process, including employee communication and coordination with brokers/vendors.
- Provide administrative support for leaves of absence and coordinate with state PFML and benefits providers.
- Review payroll inputs for accuracy and coordinate changes with payroll team.
Compliance & Policy
- Ensure compliance with federal and state employment regulations (I-9s, ACA, EEO, postings, etc.); conducting periodic audits.
- Provide administrative support for workers compensation and unemployment claims.
- Support policy updates and employee handbook revisions as needed.
Performance & Employee Engagement
- Coordinate performance management cycle (communications, templates, reminders).
- Support employee engagement initiatives, surveys, and recognition programs.
- Contribute to ad hoc HR projects as needed to support organizational growth.
What You Will Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in HR, Business Administration, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
- Three or more years of progressive HR experience, nonprofit or mission-driven organization preferred.
- Strong knowledge of HR compliance, benefits administration, and HRIS platforms.
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Strong interpersonal skills with ability to build trust and credibility across all levels of the organization.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively.
- Ability to demonstrate resourcefulness and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and HRIS platforms (Paylocity preferred).
- Ability to handle high level of confidential information
