Description
CSPNJ, a mental health nonprofit agency, is looking for seasonal Warming Center Mentor(s). The Warming Center provides emergency overnight shelter for the unhoused from December through March. The Warming Center provides a warm safe place for unsheltered individuals to spend the night during the winter months.
Key Responsibilities
- Greet guests and make them feel welcome and comfortable.
- Be a positive role model, through professional behavior and communication.
- Provide a safe and healthy environment through education, guidance, and personal interaction.
- Ensure cleanliness of the center and inform center manager of any maintenance issues.
- Responsible for guest safety, proving crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques as needed.
- Must adhere to staffing schedules to provide adequate and safe staffing coverage to accomplish program objectives.
Up to 28 hours per week | $100 Holiday Shift Pay on Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years Day | No benefits
2 shifts available
1. 5:00pm – 12:00am
2. 12:00am – 7:00am
Hourly Rate: $20.00
Requirements
- High School diploma / GED and 1-2 years of related experience OR
- 3 years of experience working with the unhoused population.
- Ability to make positive relationships with individuals who receive mental health and/or substance abuse services.
- Proven ability to work with diverse communities.
- Willingness to disclose use of mental health or addiction services and speak openly on aspects of their individual recovery.
- Ability to work with individuals with mental illness in a caring and professional manner.
- Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office) as well as general computer literacy.
- Bilingual skills are a plus!
- Lived Experience: CSPNJ prioritizes hiring people who use their own life experience dealing with mental health/substance use issues to inspire and support others.
