SUMMARY

The Maintenance/Electrician is responsible for performing highly skilled maintenance, installation, repair and troubleshooting work involved with electrical systems. Work involves technical application of electrical principles.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

(Includes the following and other duties may be assigned).

Responsible for:

  • Installing, servicing, and repairing lighting fixtures, electrical panels, outlets, and wiring.
  • Operating power hand tools and specialized electrical equipment.
  • Installing, repairing, maintaining, and servicing specialized electrical equipment and machinery.
  • Reading electrical circuit diagrams.
  • Requisitioning material and supplies from inventory; calling vendors to discuss needs for parts and supplies and recommending purchases and suppliers.
  • Transferring primary power from one power source to another.
  • Installing conductors, splicing cable, building terminations, and doing necessary hook-up for primary power lines.
  • Laying underground conduit for electrical lines and installing low voltage electric lines and conduits for telephone systems.
  • Installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting PLC's, process controls, electrical, instrument, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment.
  • Performing emergency maintenance on failed equipment to ensure minimal production downtime.
  • Ensuring excellence in all areas of compliance, environmental and safety.
  • Replacing and repairing parts, rewire, install related instrument/electrical items including conduit and/or wiring.
  • Fulfilling work orders and documenting the time, tasks and parts/supplies needed to complete the project.
  • Working and coordinating with VP Asset Management and other staff members to design incoming electrical service, motor control centers, and miscellaneous items for all new projects.
    • Performing according to company safety policies, OSHA, EPA, National Electrical Safety Code and DOT regulations and procedures. 
    • Promoting and adhering to the company Core Values of honesty, integrity & teamwork.
    • Securing equipment and facilities when closing.
    • Promptly and regularly reporting to work and working overtime hours as needed. 
    • Presenting a clean and professional appearance.
    • Employee is required to perform all other duties as directed.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES 

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities. 

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE 

  • Current and valid Journeyman Electrician License recognized by the state or local jurisdiction where work is performed.
  • A Journeyman Electrician is defined as an individual who has completed an approved apprenticeship or equivalent training and is licensed to install, maintain, and repair electrical systems under minimal supervision, in accordance with applicable codes and safety standards.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working with 3-phase industrial equipment up to 600V.
  • Strong understanding of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and applicable local electrical codes.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical documents.
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record required.
  • Willing to seek out and attend additional continuing education, seminars, classes, or other job-related education requirements or opportunities.

LANGUAGE SKILLS 

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to read aerial photo maps for proper field identification. 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS 

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, volume, and weights.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS

Either have or the ability to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License Class A with necessary endorsements. Must maintain and have a safe driving record. 

REASONING ABILITY

The ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Able to deal with problems with several concrete variables in standard situations.  Must be able to think quickly and perform a mental assessment of workplace hazards, take appropriate precautions, and choose appropriate PPE as dictated by need, regulation, and labeling.

The employee may frequently need to climb ladders (may range from 5’ to 30’). This may include structural ladders as well as climbing into large vehicles and/or tractors.   Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions; extreme cold and extreme heat toxic or caustic chemicals and vibration.  The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; risk of electrical shock and explosives.  The noise level in this work environments is usually loud (although not believed to exceed the eight-hour threshold for working in or around loud equipment).  The employee must understand and implement all related safety policies, procedures and programs for prevention and protection while performing job duties in various work environments.
