Cetera is seeking the ideal candidate for an Advanced Planning Director. As a member of the Advanced Planning Team (APT), Director will lead a team of advanced planning consultants. The director will assist team members and advisors with HNW client opportunities of $10 million or more in investable assets. The team develops wealth strategies through the framework of comprehensive wealth management strategies, including tax-focused investments, risk management, trust, estate, wealth transfer, and charitable giving. As leader of the APT team, the director is responsible for the comprehensive development of advanced planning strategies, to drive implementations and accountability for these opportunities to achieve measurable growth in the firm’s AUM and revenues. The director is responsible for team activity metrics, opportunity tracking and utilization of other Cetera teams, including Cetera Trust Company, to provide solutions to best serve clients and our affiliated financial advisors.

  • Leadership and Collaboration with Internal Teams

  • Build strong relationships with our affiliated advisors, APT team members, internal business partners, and specialists by fostering collaboration.
  • Follow up with fellow APT team members to ensure that all advisor requests and issues are promptly addressed, and interaction details are properly documented and shared internally.
  • Promote the Advanced Planning team capabilities to advisors, regional growth teams, and prospective affiliates to Cetera Financial Group. 

 

 

Education & Experience

  • Previous success in leading, developing, training, and promoting advanced case planning teams.
  • 12+ years in client and/or advisor facing high-net-worth planning role.
  • FINRA 7 & 63 licenses are required.
  • Life insurance license preferred.
  • CFP designation preferred or commensurate experience. 
  • Understanding of trust utilization, estate, and legacy planning.
  • Additional securities licenses and designations may be required.
  • BS/BA in business, finance, economics, accounting, or related field.
  • Utilization of eMoney or Moneyguide Pro financial planning software. 
  • Ability to review and analyze investment opportunities.
  • Understanding of business planning, valuation and exit strategies.
  • Experience with implementing charitable giving strategies.
  • Experience with implementing insurance and risk management solutions. 
  • Understanding of alternative investment solutions including 1031, QOZ, REIT, exchange funds, and oil and gas programs for diversification and placement in HNW portfolio allocations. 
  • Understanding of regulatory and suitability requirements and concentration limits of certain investment recommendations.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Communicate Advanced Planning Team capabilities and value proposition to financial professionals and internal teams. 

  • Present case studies and promote APT at advisor forums including affiliate firm presentations, and national conferences.

  • Monitor team activities utilizing Salesforce, including activity and opportunity tracking, volume of planning opportunities and implemented assets.

  • Monthly reporting on team progress relative to established goals. 

  • Provide ongoing training and support for all APT members. 

  • Actively participate in high-net-worth opportunity discovery and presentations. 

  • Conduct bi-weekly open opportunity pipeline meetings with all team members to facilitate implementation strategy. 

  • Oversee the development and results of asset-based lending program and consultants. 

  • Facilitate resources to address financial professional advanced planning questions through tax and estate planning specialist(s). 

  • Promote involvement and collaboration between APT members and Cetera SME resources from internal teams including risk, annuity, advisory and alternative investments. 

 

Required Skills:

  • Expert in Microsoft Office; especially PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Salesforce utilization is required. 
  • Expertise in investment advisory portfolios and platforms. 
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, train, and promote the skills of team members. 
  • Create financial plans and client presentations.
  • Highly energetic self-starter.
  • Ability to analyze data and incorporate solutions from all financial planning disciplines to drive results, and influence senior leaders in a cross-functional, diverse environment.
  • Ability to meet designated business and sales goals of asset implementation, revenue, and profitability.

 

Compensation:

The base annual salary range for this role is $192,000 to $276,000, plus a competitive performance-based bonus.  Base annual salary depends on a wide array of factors, including but not limited to skill set, years and depth of experience, certifications, and location. Base annual salary may also differ significantly due to geography and cost of labor considerations.
