Qualifications:
College hours, high school diploma or GED
Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) (preferred)
Knowledge of federal, state, and local requirements of Special Needs Transportation
"Proficient in utilizing routing software to design and optimize route schedules, and skilled in creating and managing spreadsheets and databases for operational efficiency
Ability to interview, counsel and provide written and oral communication and task instructions
Primary Purpose:
Maintain the routing and planning software and provide on-going routing changes to meet changing needs of the district and patrons. Use demographic information and other data to create / update routes that minimize time on the route while maximizing ridership. Minimize the number of buses utilized to provide safe and on-time routes to and from school.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage a team of Assistant Routers.
- Work in collaboration with the Special Needs Routing Coordinator
- Coordinate all regular and special needs routing.
- Provide the coordination of special transit services (special needs and McKenny-Vento students) in the safe and on-time delivery of these students during the regular school year and summer school programs.
- Create and develop a working relationship with the District special needs departments to include school diagnosticians.
- Knowledge of ARD Process and other legal requirements of Special Needs Transportation.
- Monitor current routes and modify changing conditions.
- Knowledge of equipment required on vehicles used for Special Needs Transportation.
- Knowledge of availability, capabilities and location of emergency medical services along designed special needs routes.
- Knowledge and implementation of procedures concerning Do Not Resuscitate orders.
- Supervise the operation and maintenance of the routing and planning system.
- Coordinate staff requirements on special needs routes.
- Coordinate routing and planning system with current demographics and geographic data.
- Coordinate with schools/districts/riders/contractors for all special programs.
- Coordinate, prepare and file all necessary state and federal reports.
- Converse with patrons and schools regarding bus route and bus stop issues.
- Knowledge of length of student ride and suspension limitations including due process rights and procedures of students with disabilities.
- Maintain confidentiality of student records.
- Provide driving support during staff shortages ensuring continuity of transportation services.
- Other duties as assigned.
Equipment Used:
Personal computer, telephone, printer, plotter, copier, calculator and fax machine. School bus. Bus safety equipment including wheelchair lift and securement devices.
Working Conditions:
Continual sitting must be able to maintain emotional control, Work with frequent interruptions. Reaching and repetitive hand and arm motions. Work outside and inside; moderate exposure to extreme temperatures (hot) and vehicle fumes. Moderate lifting and carrying. Irregular hours and occasional prolonged hours.
