We are hiring a social video producer, sport to enhance our coverage of soccer and other sports. This role is based in New York. This hire is part of a significant expansion of the Guardian’s coverage of soccer in and for the US. In this role, you’ll be at the heart of the Guardian’s social and video content creation, collaborating with video, social and sport editors to produce engaging material for multiple platforms.

Salary range: $80,000-$86,000
About the role
This is a new role for the Guardian US with the potential to change and enhance our coverage of soccer and other sports. You will be expected to:
- Craft visually compelling video content for the Guardian’s social media and website on US soccer and other sports, building our audience off- and on-platform
- Work closely with the senior US soccer editor, the US sports editor, and US and global social teams
- Support sports writers in producing engaging video content tailored for our social platforms and website, helping amplify their voices
- Stay up-to-date on soccer from around the world, in search of storylines that appeal to the large, diverse, and growing audience for the sport in the United States
- Ensure all content meets the Guardian's standards of accuracy, fairness, and editorial independence
- Contribute to live, off-platform coverage of major news events, keeping our audience connected and informed
- Experiment and innovate with new forms of social and other video
- Experience building off-platform audiences for sports coverage
About you
- Excellent knowledge and understanding of soccer in the Americas and globally.
- High level of knowledge and understanding of a variety of other sports, such as American football, basketball, baseball, tennis, etc
- Familiarity with Guardian sport content, both in the US and globally
- Treat all kinds of soccer (men’s, women’s, domestic, European, etc) with equal respect, committing to the same level of journalistic standards and seriousness regardless of who is playing
- Familiarity with Guardian sport content, both in the US and globally
- Excellent news judgment and high standards for fair and accurate reporting
- Enthusiasm for working with Guardian correspondents and willingness to help them develop their video skills
- Proven ability to produce social media videos from start to finish using Adobe Premiere
- Basic knowledge of After Effects or other graphics software
- Ability to shoot video content for social platforms as required (using cameras or high-end smartphones)
- Comfortable setting up small, portable video kits independently and troubleshooting basic technical problems, especially regarding lighting and studio, on set or in studio
- Strong writing skills with a flair for distilling long, complex information into engaging and concise copy
- Experience working across a range of social media platforms, with a nuanced understanding of each platform’s unique ecosystem
- Experience working in a newsroom under tight deadlines.
Understanding of issues related to sports rights, licensing and geo-blocking
