This position sorts incoming mail for distribution, dispatches outgoing mail and serves postal customers. Must have clean driving record, past postal experience, and obtain state and federal background clearance. Full-time 30-40 hrs/wk $20.17 per/hr.

In accordance with Assets, Inc. core values and mission, this position sorts incoming mail for distribution, dispatches outgoing mail and serves postal customers by performing the following duties:

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Adheres to and demonstrates Assets, Inc. core values, mission, code of conduct, and employee expectations in the performance of all aspects of this position.
  2. Provides direct labor in accordance with outlined OSHA safety standards and as required by site management including but not limited to:
  • Receiving and delivering mail and packages
  • Identifying class of mail
  • Assigning and closing mail receptacles
  • Replace broken mailbox locks and keys.
  • Answering telephone and providing customer service
  • Completing various mail forms
  • Accessing and inputting computer data
  1. Regularly lifts and/or moves packages and boxes of up to 30 pounds.
  2. Actively participates in company meetings and trainings.
  3. Maintains proactive relationships with customers and coworkers.
  4. Maintains professional grooming and attire.
  5. Is familiar with and follows all policies set forth by Assets, Inc.
  6. Supports team efforts and actively participates in strengthening team structures.
  7. Based on site needs, the General Clerk may be designated to perform coaching duties for other employees. This may include observation, direct and indirect supports, guidance, and on the job training.
  8. Acts as a mentor in the work environment.
  9. Removing snow with a shovel.
  10. Satisfactorily complete all required training for the position.
  11. May require obtaining a security clearance.
  12. Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications

Education and/or Experience:   

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
  • One (1) year mailroom setting experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience required.

 

Language Skills:    Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

 

Reasoning Ability:    Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:  Valid State of Alaska Driver's License or Identification. 

 

Desired Skills and Abilities

  1. Proven ability to type a minimum of 25 wpm accurately is required.
  2. Ability to work with individuals with mental illness or developmental disabilities.
  3. Computer experience preferred (Windows).
  4. Ability to work in a team environment.
