Senior Subrogation Adjuster, Claims

The Senior Subrogation Adjuster, Claims is a key member of Gore Mutual’s Claims team, responsible for managing recovery files of moderate to high complexity across all lines of business, including Auto, Property, Commercial, and Liability. This role focuses on maximizing recovery outcomes while maintaining superior customer service and adherence to internal claims handling policies.

Responsibilities

  • Review, investigate and assess new claims as they are referred and ensure that required expert vendors are involved in a timely manner.
  • Ensure that responsible parties are placed on notice and the Demand and Subrogation Documents are sent to the responsible parties accordingly.
  • Engage legal counsel as soon as the need is identified.
  • Ensure that legal limitation dates are protected where we intend to pursue recovery or are still investigating, while also ensuring our clients are kept apprised of recovery efforts.
  • ​This role will also require that they prepare detailed reports for the Recovery Team Leader or Specialist for settlement authority requests and abandonment requests above their authority.  
  • Attend settlement conferences, mediation, pre-trials, and trials as required with our legal counsel.
  • Provide settlement instructions to legal counsel in pro-active efforts to resolve files as soon as possible using Alternative Dispute Resolution such as mediation/arbitration when possible. 
  • Prepare files for pre-arbitration officer for inter-company arbitration process and attend hearings when possible and where pre-arbitration does not resolve the matter.
  • ollaborate with and provide direction to front line staff based on the claim circumstances around what evidence is required to enhance our chances of a successful recovery.
  • Ensure evidence is secured and/or retained and that the initial subrogation investigation is addressed.​
  • Review all invoices received for accuracy and legitimacy, issue payment accordingly. 
  • Obtain budgets from recovery vendors prior to engaging their services to ensure it makes economic sense to pursue the recovery.
  • Ensure the expense of investigating and pursuing the recovery claim is not more than 35% of the value of the potential recovery amount. 
  • ​​Negotiate directly with responsible parties, their insurers or other representatives to arrive at the highest possible settlement amount, in a timely manner.
  • Ensure releases are properly worded before signing on behalf of Gore Mutual and ensure the Insured’s interests and Gore’s interests are protected.
  • Ensure that recovery payments are received within a timely manner and the insured’s deductible is reimbursed accordingly if applicable.  ​​

Requirements

  • 3 years of subrogation experience
  • 5 years of experience in property or casualty claims adjusting
  • College diploma or University degree
  • ​​Superior Communication (both written and oral) and collaboration skills 
  • ​Superior analytical and negotiation Skills 
  • ​Ability to Train/Mentor/Coach others 
  • ​Litigation Management  
  • ​Experience in handling Property, Auto and Liability claims 
  • ​Superior level of knowledge regarding differences in legal handling within all Canadian Provinces and Territories​
