Job Description
The University of Nevada Reno, School of Public Health is recruiting for a Senior Data Analyst. This position combines data engineering and business intelligence work to support academic research at the School of Public Health. The role involves collecting and organizing data from multiple sources, building databases and data warehouses, and creating dashboards and reports that help faculty and students make data-driven decisions. The analyst works directly with researchers and faculty to understand their data needs, ensures data quality and accessibility, and provides basic technical support for research systems.
Success requires strong technical skills in data modeling and database optimization, plus the ability to communicate effectively with academic stakeholders. This role reports to the Assistant Dean of Operations for the School of Public Health.
Key Responsibilities:
Identify and curate comprehensive datasets from external third party and clean, validate, and standardize large-scale datasets to ensure optimal data quality and consistency
Collaborate with teams to integrate diverse datasets into the school’s centralized data mart
Execute rigorous data validation and quality assurance processes to maintain accuracy and reliability
Utilize PowerBI and other tools to analyze data and create readable reports for researchers and faculty
Design and develop complex database queries using SQL and other relevant programming languages
Provide technical assistance to faculty and staff with data environment setup, connectivity, and troubleshooting
Serve as the primary liaison between the School of Public Health and IT to coordinate technology initiatives
Ensure robust server environments, network access controls, and storage configurations
Create comprehensive data mapping schemas to bridge different technologies, coding systems, and data structures
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology or related field and four (4) years of related professional work experience; OR a master's degree in computer science, Information Technology or related field and two (2) years of related professional work experience.
Related Experience: Data reporting, SQL, BI tools, database management systems, dashboard development and data visualization tools, data governance principles, HIPAA privacy regulations
