Position Information
Texas A&M AgriLife Research at Yoakum, is seeking a highly motivated Research Technician II. Under general supervision the Research Technician will perform semi-skilled, technical support research work involving performance of assignments requiring modification and adaptation to routine procedures. Work is performed under general supervision with evaluation based on the successful completion of tasks assigned.
Responsibilities:
-Ability to drive tractor and knowledge of farm equipment. This includes discing, bedding, and planting of various crops.
-Spraying of various pesticides to maintain fields weed and disease free during growing season. This requires a pesticide license to perform these duties.
-Assist in harvest of various crops.
-During summer months will be responsible for the irrigation of several fields.
-Ability to make equipment repairs and handle everyday field operations with little supervision.
-Pickup research supplies, equipment and building maintenance supplies. These responsibilities require operating an agency owned vehicle to perform these duties.
-Collects samples and measurement data from experiments.
-Assists senior staff members in conducting major field experiments and consults in developing procedures.
-These duties require travel to different locations in south Texas.
-Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
-High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
-Three years of related experience.
-Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
-Valid driver license.
-Pesticide Commercial/Noncommercial Applicator License within six months of employment to apply pesticides and herbicides to fields.
Other Requirements:
-Ability to lift moderately heavy objects. Ability to exert heavy force. Work beyond normal business hours and/or work on weekends.
-Ability to travel to different locations in south Texas.
What You Need to Know
Salary: Compensation for this position is commensurate based on the selected candidate’s qualifications. This is an hourly paid position.
Position Funding: This position is grant funded and availability is contingent on grant funding. This is a one to two-year position subject to performance and availability of funding. This position is for 30 hours per week.
