Position: PRINT TECHNICIAN
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Bindery Technician supports the printing and graphics team by performing basic laminating, binding, and specialty finishing work, with a primary focus on meeting the unique printing and presentation needs of the Special Education department. This position also assists the Lead Printer and other print shop staff with general production tasks when needed.
Specific Duties:
- Performs laminating of instructional materials, visual aids, and signage for Special Education staff and students.
- Assists with unique or specialized print projects, such as creating custom forms, tactile learning materials, or adaptive classroom resources.
- Operates small-format bindery equipment (laminators, small cutters, staplers, booklet makers) to complete assigned jobs.
- Prepares and organizes print jobs, ensuring proper paper selection, trimming, and finishing to meet project specifications.
- Maintains laminating and small bindery equipment, including cleaning, loading supplies, and replacing basic consumables.
- Organizes and tracks incoming Special Education print and lamination requests; communicates with requestors regarding timelines and completion.
- Assists the Lead Printer with larger print runs, bindery operations, and mailroom or dock activities during peak workload periods or staff absences.
- Maintains inventory of laminating film, specialty papers, and other bindery supplies; reports shortages to the Lead Printer.
Distinguishing Features:
- Work is primarily focused on basic bindery and finishing tasks rather than high-volume printing.
- Supports the Special Education department’s unique instructional and accessibility material needs.
- Works under direct supervision of the Lead Printer or Printing & Graphics Supervisor.
- Position is FLSA non-exempt.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualifications Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- One year of experience in bindery, laminating, or related finishing work preferred.
- Ability to operate and maintain small bindery equipment and follow production instructions accurately.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Communication:
- Works closely with Special Education staff to clarify job requirements and ensure materials meet intended instructional or accessibility purposes.
- Reports job status, equipment issues, and supply needs to the Lead Printer.
Manual/Physical:
- Operates laminating, trimming, and basic bindery equipment.
- Handles paper, laminating film, and supplies, occasionally lifting up to 40 lbs.
Mental:
- Follows detailed job instructions and quality standards.
- Organizes multiple small jobs and meets established deadlines.
PERFORMANCE EVALUATION:
Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Classified Human
Terms of Employment: 261 Days
