Job Summary

This position is held in our Communications department, reporting to the Director, Communications & Public Affairs, leading the countywide safety coordination for ACOE and school districts including planning, coordinating, and implementing preparedness activities and response efforts while building and maintaining relationships with Alameda County schools and local, state, and federal emergency services agencies.

Required Documents

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Bachelor’s Degree in business administration, public policy, public administration, public safety, fire science, emergency management/preparedness, or closely related fields required. Experience: Three (3) years of job-related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is required. Work experience in public agencies or emergency services is preferred. Equivalency: Three (3) years of experience in emergency management or safety program planning; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Formal training in emergency preparedness (e.g. REMS, NIMS, SEMS, NRF, or ICS) is highly desirable. Possession and maintenance of the Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Management and Reserve Officer Certificates is also desirable. Requirements / Qualifications

THE POSITION: The job of the School Safety and Emergency Services Manager is done for the purposes of planning, coordinating, and implementing the Alameda County Office of Education (ACOE) Disaster Preparedness Plan; supporting Alameda County schools with emergency preparedness and response; and coordinating emergency preparedness and response efforts across Alameda County with schools and local, state, and federal emergency services agencies. This job reports to the Director, Communications & Public Affairs. LOCATION: 313 W. Winton Ave. Hayward, CA 94544. TYPICAL DUTIES: Leads countywide coordination of emergency services among ACOE, all Alameda County schools, including districts, charter schools, state special schools, non-public schools, and private schools, and local, state, and federal emergency services agencies. Provides leadership and assistance to ACOE departments and Alameda County school districts in the planning and implementation of short-and long-range disaster and emergency preparedness plans and programs. Develops and recommends policies and guidelines regarding countywide disaster plans. Provides technical assistance to ACOE programs and school districts in the development of Comprehensive School Safety Plans (CSSP) and other safety plans as needed.
