Minimum Qualifications:
Experience:
Equipment Mechanic I
2 years in automotive, medium/heavy truck, or construction equipment diagnostics and repair. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications
Equipment Mechanic II
4 years in automotive, medium/heavy truck, or construction equipment diagnostics and repair. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications
- Associate's degree in Automotive and/or Diesel Technology may substitute for 2 year's experience.
- Certificates of course completion from a Technical Training Institute in Automotive and Diesel Technology may substitute for experience on a year for year basis.
Licenses and Certifications:
- Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
- Must have a Class "A" Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or have obtained a Class "A" CDL, within 90 calendar days from date of employment.

Equipment Mechanic I
Knowledge of:
- Troubleshooting, repairing and calibrating electronic and mechanical components and subsystems
- Using applicable hand and power tools, equipment and mechanical devices of the trade
- Mechanical repair procedures for diesel, gasoline, CNG and LPG engines
- Brake repairs to include anti-locking systems, mechanical brakes, air brakes and hydraulic brake systems
- Diagnosing problems and repairing equipment to include electronic and mechanical components and subsystems according to defined codes and specifications
- Using Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Excel, and Word
Skill in:
- Follow applicable safety standards, practices and procedures
- Read and interpret electrical diagrams and schematics
Equipment Mechanic II
Includes all competencies listed for Equipment Mechanic I as well as:
Knowledge of:
- Automatic and manual shift transmission repair
- Brake repairs to include anti-locking systems, mechanical brakes, air brakes and hydraulic brake systems
Skill in:
- Using applicable hand and power tools, equipment and mechanical devices of the trade
- Mechanical repair procedures for diesel, gasoline, CNG and LPG engines
- Diagnostic skills with automotive and diesel computer applications
- Using Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Excel, and Word
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Subject to environmental conditions; protection from weather but not temperature changes

- Medium work: Lift up to 50 lbs. at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 25 lbs.

- Must be able to report for duty on a 24-hour basis to respond to emergency situations.
