R&D Product Specifications Scientist chez JBSS Inc.

Summary of Position:
The R&D Product Specifications Scientist is responsible for the hands-on, day-to-day development of new product specifications, maintenance and improvement of existing specifications, data collection and analysis, and optimization activities across all JBSS product categories. This role plays a key part in ensuring that every product launched has detailed, data-driven, and robust specifications. The individual will also manage key customer relationships related to specifications and serve as the technical liaison for both internal and external stakeholders.

Functions of the Position:

• Develop product specifications and ensure they align with JBSS process capabilities.
• Manage all JBSS product specifications in QAD and Product Vision across all customers and channels, including customer-owned databases where applicable.
• Review JBSS ingredient specifications and enter the necessary attributes into Product Vision.
• Assist food scientists with data collection and analysis.
• Ensure gold standard specifications are available for First Production Runs.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams on specification-related matters.
• Document JBSS processes and procedures and maintain R&D records.

Education, Experience, and Knowledge:

• Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Food Technology, or another science-related field is required.
• Minimum of three (3) years of experience in the food industry, specifically in R&D, Regulatory, and/or Quality Control.
• Experience with Product Vision and Minitab software is highly desirable.
• Strong background in product specifications, sensory evaluation, and data analysis, with hands-on experience in food manufacturing/operations is highly desirable.
• Experience in snacks, nut products, and extrusion is preferred.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

• Statistics training or Six Sigma certification – preferred
• Sensory certification – preferred

• Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail
• Strong organizational, analytical thinking, problem-solving, and record-keeping skills
• Proficient in data and statistical analysis
• Solid project management capabilities
• Highly proficient in desktop applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and systems like Product Vision
