Description
The Driver is responsible for transportation of residents to activities, medical appointments and other off campus events as directed by the administration of the facility. The Driver is responsible for ensuring the safety of the residents and operating in a safe manner at all times.
Scope & Status: Non-Exempt/Hourly
The Driver reports directly to the Executive Director. The Driver also assists the staff and residents during emergency situations, such as severe weather conditions and mandatory evacuation situations.
Relationships:
Interacts with:
a. Key management staff, department directors and housekeeping personnel.
b. Residents, family members, support groups and referral sources.
c. Works with Personal Assistants and Nurses to support Resident well-being.
d. Other drivers on the road in a respectful, safe and courteous manner.
Requirements
Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform and complete each essential duty satisfactorily, have excellent communication and language skills which enables them to successfully perform and complete their duties and interact effectively with residents, guests, family members and fellow staff members. Employee must meet all specific state and federal regulations for assuming the position of Driver at an assisted living facility. The following certifications, training and diplomas are required: high school diploma or GED. Employee must have and maintain a valid driver’s license; and may be required to maintain a Chauffeur’s classification according to the vehicle being utilized. A safe driving record is required. Areas of Responsibility:
1. Planning
a. Utilizes the company passenger vehicle to transport residents to community appointments.
b. Plans delivery and pick-up of residents with the Concierge and/or Executive Director for scheduled appointments.
c. Reports to work in appropriate attire/uniform and wears name identification badge.
d. Works shifts as assigned. Reports to work on time.
e. Completes assignments within required time frame. Utilizes time management skills effectively.
f. Ensures vehicle is maintained appropriately working in conjunction with the Director of Maintenance. Recognizes and reports any electrical or mechanical faults in the vehicles.
g. Reports any unsafe situations to the ED.
2. Direction and Organizational
a. Models professionalism, compassion and courtesy at all times.
b. Assist passengers in embarking and disembarking safely.
c. Assist with loading and unloading of resident walking aids.
d. Chooses best routes to destinations by using maps and GPS.
e. The Driver ensures that the vehicles are constantly kept clean.
f. Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Maintenance, Executive Director, Activity Director and/or Concierge.
g. Ensures that all safety belts are fastened and secure.
3. Regulation and Policy Compliance
a. Ensures that QSL Management Group policies and procedures are followed as it relates to maintenance, safety and housekeeping.
b. Does not transport any resident prior to completing all training related to utilizing a wheelchair lift, securing all mobility devices with safety straps/belts and transporting residents while adhering to all safety features and rules.
c. Never leaves a resident unsupervised in a vehicle.
d. Complies with all traffic rules.
e. Maintains Federal, State, County and City regulations.
f. Maintains a working knowledge and demonstrates acceptable performance skills in:
1. Resident rights and responsibilities.
2. Respect for residents’ belongings.
3. Respect for residents’ privacy.
4. Respect for residents’ religious beliefs.
5. Respect for interpersonal relationships with family and other staff members.
Physical, Sensory & Mental Requirements:
Primary Physical Requirements:
1. Lift up to 10 lbs.: Frequently required to lift boxes and supplies during food preparation, plating, serving, storage, cleaning and stocking.
2. Lift 11 to 25 lbs.: Occasionally may be required when dealing with boxes, equipment and supplies.
3. Lift 26 to 50lbs.: May be required during the delivery of products and supplies and for the storage of inventory. Employee is to request assistance from other staff members.
4. Lift over 50 lbs.: May be required during the delivery of products and supplies and for the storage of inventory. Employee is to request assistance from other staff members.
5. Reach above shoulder height: Occasionally occurs when reaching for cooking items and supplies and when storing items in the cooler, freezer or pantry area.
6. Reach at shoulder height: Occasionally occurs when reaching for cooking items, supplies and when storing items in the cooler, freezer or pantry area.
7. Reach below shoulder height: Frequently occurs during meal preparation, cleaning, storing/stocking items and meal service.
8. Push/Pull: Occasionally required when assisting a resident in a wheelchair: which rolls easily across tile, vinyl or carpeted floor.
