The University of Pittsburgh School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences is a nationally renowned leader in the field of health care education, research, and clinical practice preparation. SHRS has 14 different disciplines related to health and rehabilitative care.

SHRS Department of Rehabilitation Science and Technology is seeking a Research Scientist to support federally and privately funded research and training initiatives in the areas of assistive technology (AT), AT service delivery, technology training, and community-based interventions. These activities span the continuum of AT research-to-practice and directly support integration of evidence-based knowledge into education, training, and service delivery for individuals with paralysis and other disabilities. The incumbent will be responsible for developing and maintaining smart technology training materials, coordinating with external individuals and organizations to ensure stakeholder input, and supporting evaluation processes to ensure the resources are effective, accessible, and widely disseminated. The incumbent will also lead the development and delivery of smart technology–based interventions and investigate funding, policy, and barriers related to smart technology adoption and service delivery.

A PhD or a terminal clinical degree in relevant field(s) is required, along with five years of experience in healthcare or human subject research. 

Job Summary
Conducts independent scientific research projects from inception to presentation. Prepares and crafts various documentations of research results into manuscripts, proposals, grant applications, and presentations. Trains undergraduates and research technicians. Manages laboratory policies and coordinates project development in collaboration with other specialists.

Essential Functions 
Computer and telephone operation, high cognitive functioning, ability to read and interpret scientific literature, excellent written and verbal communication skills, excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, and ability to multi-task and problem solve on the job are required.  

Physical Effort 
This position requires use of a computer, telephone, and other common office resources. At times, the incumbent will be required to travel to other sites for participant recruitment, meeting, data collection, and dissemination, and travel to participants’ residences for delivering tech-based interventions.
