Manager, Assets & Maintenance Business Planning

About the role
This role plays a central part in aligning the Assets & Maintenance division with V/Line’s strategic goals. You’ll lead the development of business plans, coordinate strategic initiatives, and support executive decision-making through performance tracking, stakeholder engagement, and change implementation.
A key focus of the role is driving strategic alignment by translating high-level objectives into clear, actionable plans that guide the division’s direction and performance. It’s a leadership role that blends influence, collaboration, and forward thinking in a dynamic and operationally focused environment.
Key accountabilities include:
· Lead divisional planning: Develop and coordinate strategic and operational plans aligned with V/Line’s corporate goals.
· Facilitate collaboration: Run planning workshops and engage leaders to align on direction and priorities.
· Support executive decision-making: Provide insights, reports, and briefings to senior leadership and board forums.
· Drive performance tracking: Establish KPIs and monitor progress across key initiatives and improvement programs.
· Coordinate change initiatives: Support the rollout of change programs and ensure they’re embedded into operations.
· Engage stakeholders: Manage internal and external relationships, including cross-functional teams and consultants.
· Contribute to funding and business cases: Assist in preparing submissions and aligning plans with government priorities.
· Champion communication: Lead divisional communications in partnership with Corporate Affairs.

Our ideal candidate will possess the following:
· Deep experience in strategic or business planning within complex, operational environments.
· Strong ability to influence senior leaders and collaborate across departments.
· Proven success in leading or supporting change and business improvement initiatives.
· Skilled in stakeholder engagement, including managing consultants and cross-functional teams.
· High-level written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present to executive audiences.
· Strong analytical thinking and the ability to turn strategy into actionable plans.
· Experience supporting risk and performance management frameworks.
· A strategic mindset, emotional intelligence, and the ability to adapt in fast-paced settings.
· A relevant tertiary qualification in Business, Public Administration, Strategic Planning or similar (highly regarded).
· Demonstrated alignment with V/Line’s values of responsiveness, integrity, impartiality, accountability, respect, leadership and human rights.
