  Math Instructor   Founded in 1997, Think Together partners with schools to change the odds for kids by providing award-winning programs during and outside the school day. We’re one of California’s largest nonprofits working in school districts from San Diego to San Francisco. JOB SUMMARY:

In partnership with the UCLA CEED Mathematics Achievement Program (MAP) Instructors will teach high school mathematics (Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Pre-Calculus, Calculus) to small cohorts of 15–25 students. MAP is designed to strengthen math achievement, foster leadership, and support underrepresented students in preparing for college and STEM careers. Instructors serve as both teachers and mentors, modeling academic excellence and cultural relevance.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teach a class of 15-25 high school students three times a month
  • Attend monthly Teacher Training sessions to work on
  • Developing curriculum and preparing lesson plans
  • Prepare an interactive, project-based Math curriculum
  • Attend monthly Instructor meetings after class on Saturday
  • Upload lessons plans and resources to MAP Instructor Folder
  • Collaborate with fellow instructors and program coordinators to ensure high-quality, culturally responsive math instruction.
  • Serve as a mentor and role model, supporting students’ academic and personal growth.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION:

  • Associate’s degree required; bachelor's degree preferred in Mathematics, Education, or related field.
  • Must be 23 years of age or older.
  • Current California teaching credential in Mathematics or successful completion of a Math Proficiency/Assessment Exam.

 

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Must pass Live Scan (criminal background check via fingerprinting).
  • Provide a clear TB test.

 

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • Curriculum and instructional strategies appropriate to the assigned responsibility.
  • Correct oral and written usage of English Basic grammar, spelling, punctuation and math.
  • Simple record-keeping and filing techniques.
  • Diversity of community and city cultures and languages. ABILITY TO:
  • Demonstrate oral and written proficiency in English.
  • Learn the procedures and functions of assigned duties.
  • Understand and follow oral and written directions.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Learn, understand and apply rules, regulations, procedures and policies.
  • Understand and be sensitive to the needs and culture of TK-12 students.
  • Work confidentially with discretion.
  • Perform simple clerical duties.
  • Perform the essential functions of the job.

WORKING CONDITIONS: ENVIRONMENT:

  • Indoor/outdoor Classroom and Playground environment.
  • Moderate noise (examples: typical school noise with children at play).

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

  • Seeing to monitor student work and read materials.
  • Hearing and speaking accurately to exchange information.
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate instructional equipment.
  • Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching to assist students.
  • Sitting or standing for extended periods of time.
  • Lifting or moving objects, normally not exceeding thirty (30) pounds.

 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

  • Must be available to work Saturday mornings

 

COMPUTER SKILLS:

  • Word processing
  • Use typical office equipment, E-mail, and Internet software.
  • Web browsing and electronic file management.
  • Zoom, Google Classroom, and other digital platforms.
